    all tore up already
Question to everyone upset about rear drums: ever need to service them? Ill check mine somewhere around 60-75k but expect 125k+ out of them. At that point they will likely need shoes and hardware, maybe a couple wheel cylinders. So in the 200k i might keep my truck im looking at 60ish bucks. Ill keep the disc brakes thank you very much. If it were my track toy id need 4 wheel discs but i know i can set off abs on command which means the brakes are as good as they can be

I was hoping that would express it well enough. In all honesty, I was pissed off and tired, trying to read before going to sleep. I find crying over the things Toyota did, is like me crying I don't like the taste of Pepsi.

My 2004 Tundra Double Cab had rear drum brakes and the service manual called for rear brake adjustments every 10,000 miles. Ugh. I'm hoping the 3rd gen Tacos don't require that .

Talking about braking performance in terms of braking distance is irrelevant of the brake type, brake lining material, anything on the brake. I guarantee you that any braking test is done to the threshold of brake lockup with or maybe without ABS intervention. With ABS disabled I guarantee anyone can lock up their brakes. So at that point the braking distance comparison comes down to tire selection, brake bias front to rear matched to vehicle center of gravity, and ABS programming/cycling. Mostly just tire selection.

arguing about rear disc versus rear drum is like arguing about what brand of distilled water to use in your iron.

Toyota I believe owns several patents on their rear drum design, I don't remember the specifics exactly, but they work fawking perfect.

I see Toyota getting away from their roots trying to appeal to the modern day fawk boy who doesn't know anything about anything.

Stop trying to compare your junk to someone else's junk. It's like the 2nd amendment, it is what it is, it doesn't need interpretation.

A lot of people seem to buy these trucks that shouldn't of.

Wah! my 35k truck doesn't have power seats or rear disc brakes, and Toyota never sent me my purchase trophy in the mail.

There is always the point of diminished returns.

Apparently I partied to hard on Mothers Day, just reread my post  still stand behind nothing wrong with the rear drums.

    Rear drums are just fine.

2nd gen from the time they were introduced to now have looked like they phoned it in as far as body styling is concerned. Which is why I own a 1st and 3rd. I'd rather go without, than have a truck look like a half ass attempt.

I'm going to let Toyota do my arguing for me in the "disc versus drum" debate because very soon they will have factory rear disc brakes (the spacer is all ready there if u look at ends of axle) like everybody else in the industry , and every other truck/SUV toyota produces . then all of a sudden Toyota marketing is going to tell us all the benefits of disc over drum brakes as it relates to the Tacoma.
