290K on lower ball joints

    I'm pretty sure that my LBJ's had 290K on them when I replaced them last weekend. They feel fine and I don't feel any amount of slop but the boots were busted and oozing a bit. I also noticed that they didn't have the extra tray around the ball joint like I see in some of the videos that I watched. Pretty impressive that they are in such good shape.

    The reason that I think that they were original is because I bought the truck from the original owner and I specifically asked if they have been changed. He also had it mostly dealer serviced and there was no record of it. They certainly look OEM to me compared to the ones I purchased.

    My truck with 198k when I changed them. They were in good shape too. never had lift , spacers or big tires. That helps a lot

    Really need to replace my LBJs. Did you go with OEM replacements? How much did it set you back?

    and @rybern what was the life of the truck? road warrior, offroad? That's quite a stretch of miles on them if they are original and definitely good you're swapping as a preventative measure and not result of breakage/carnage.

    I used OEM. Got em from partznet.com(Conicelli Toyota) and they came with mounting bolts, castle nuts and cotter pins. They were $197 delivered for both. But I did use a 10% coupon. My local dealer was $159 each. :eek:

    Truck has been stock it's whole life and has been mostly a road warrior in Knoxville TN. My alignment guy suggested swapping them before alignment even though they felt fine. It wasn't a bad job at all IMO.

    Yeah, given the way your joint is designed I wouldn't skimp out either. 2nd gen's LBJ's don't usually fall apart when they fail.
