"Congress should reconvene the hearings in Salem, Mass. They could tie a Toyota to a long pole and dunk it into Beverly Harbor. If the Toyota sinks, then Congress will find the company guilty of all charges. But if the Toyota floats, we'll find the automaker innocent. This should be done in real time to get the maximum TV audience; although the outcome would, again, be predetermined, it should still be a ratings grabber."

i can't wait till my Tacoma accelerates out of control it will be an awesome experience! i will happily weave though traffic hitting the rev limiter at about 111 :/ and reach for my video camera turn it on and make it a how to video and post it on you-tube. its not that hard. if your vehicle is taking off on you, you don't call your priest your physician your lawyer and then pray to god and look for something soft to hit. no you put it in N turn the key to battery mode (so you can still listen to the radio), slap the hazards on pull the f*** over pat yourself on the back and say im not a retard.

Agreed. Great article. I had never owned a Toyota before last week. I never put much stock in the recall, so I didn't even hesitate buying one.

So far I love my Tacoma. And after my wife saw the incentives being offered this month, my wife now wants to trade in her Dodge Grand Caravan for a Highlander or Venza. ;)

When people ask me why I bought a new Toyota over brand 'X', I tell them it's because I would rather have a truck to accelerates suddenly for 300,000 miles with little repairs then having to put in 3 transmissions on brand 'X' in the first 100,000 miles.

This article should be on the front page of every paper. This is the only article I read supporting that these claims are bogus, which they are.

Have billions to spend to damage Toyota - AND THEY HAVE THE LACK OF MORALS TO DO IT
I am not surprised nor do I care - I have a Toyota it drives fine and I am thinking of buying another -- this drives the price down
for me it is a win win

I don't know that Ford's behind much of this, they've been heading in the right direction on their own for a while now, which is why they didn't need to be bailed out.

GM doesn't need to spend much money on it since their biggest shareholder (Govt/Congress) is also the biggest source of anti-toyota hyperbole/B.S. Not to mention that UAW, who's pissed at Toyota for closing the NUMMI plant after GM backed out (no fingers pointed GM's way, though since UAW also owns a big chunk of their stock as well), and through AFL-CIO has a driect line to the chairmen of most of these comittees and the upper echelons of the Obama White House.

Car&Driver and thetruthaboutcars have been pretty fair in their coverage from what I've seen, and have been critical of the fever-pitch of so much of the rest.

Saw a piece in Slate the other day about how twitter has been part of the real reson why Toyota's PR is doomed. Maybe there needs to be an effort to have Toyota owners to tweet every time they drive without an incident, it'd probably crash twitter in about the 3rd hour if not sooner.

I think it's simply a GM/USGov't/HowieLong conspiracy. Cars made by the government are pretty awesome though.... remeber the Yugo?

Gotta love that one complaint was actually that the car stopped accelerating when the driver quit pushing on the gas.

So, if my truck weighs the same as a duck, then it's made out of wood and therefore... defective!

    WELL HOLY CRAP!

I never thought I’d see the day that Holy Grail quotes would end up on a Tacoma Forum.

Two of my absolute favorite things. Maybe I’ll go buy a lottery ticket.
