im interested. and youre the guy to talk to. i'm not really interested in swapping to an elock style rear end. but damn sure want a locker in the rear. i saw on here a while ago something about an electromagnetic locker that sounded super cool. at any rate I want to re-gear and add a locker to the rear. I know everyone swears to go to 5.29 but as much as i drive to the west coast, i think 4.88 is my best option. any suggestion on gears? yukon or other? built 3rd member?

What size of tire and tranny?

The Harrop locker is the new E locker. Very nice...also very expensive.

@Blackdawg Im running 33/10.50 15's. pretty happy with that fit and finish. when these wear out I'll be stepping up to a 16 wheel to facilitate tundra brakes so I'll look for a metric size as close to that as possible. Manual trans, 3.4.

Oh man, if you're staying on 33s 5.29s is a not good idea. 4.88s or 4.56 is what you'll want. 4.56 will be slightly over geared from stock. 4.88s will be very torquey. If you do a ton of offroading, id go for the 4.88s. Just a weekend warrior, 4.56.

    oh ha

Interested depending on where and shipping to Canada.

4.88s for a second gen, Arb lockers, for the 8.4 rear end.

Ah I'm interested. Not sure if I can do it now. I would be interested in 4.56 or 4.88. Thinking with my AT 4.88 rig is more of a weekend warrior and not full time rig.

No idea yet. Haven't contacted any vendors or anything. Just want to see if enough people are interested to get that far.

Your a 2nd gen though. 4.56 would be a better call. what my dad runs with his 33s and had 34s before. Drives awesome.

Cool beans I'll be along for the ride. Would this be for assembled thirds as well?

Also with regards to your dads ride, his trucks a manual? General consesus is 4.56 for manual and 4.88 for auto. Or if your rigs heavy go 4.88.

His is an auto and about as heavy as it gets:

[IMG]Family 4th Camping-75.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

Fully armored, swing out, this was on 34s.

I will say he is boosted with every bolt on you can buy pretty much with a TRD blower. Hauls ass for a 6000lb tacoma..haha

I don't think you would regret 4.88s at all though.

Yeah I remember reading through that build. I'm not boosted and I'm only on 255's and it's a dog. Just read through @sytfu510 build and he recommended the 4.88's for 35's. Just planning ahead if/when I get there.

    Thanks again for doing this!
