It's a radio, it will work .. For a couple more bucks you can get one with a weather radio on it, or RF gain and noise cancellation. It's really all in what ya plan to use it for!

I want to permanently mount mine in the cubby under the HVAC controls

 

It's mounted, but most of the controls are in the hand unit. So you can unplug and store it if not in need.

I leave it in the center console!

 

ive seen some slick 2nd gen stealth installs of the cobra 75... maybe worth looking into to save some space in the cab and get that clean af look
