I thought that was a misprint. The larger dif Offroad model gets 18 foot pounds , the smaller diff nonlocking model is 33 foot pounds ?

So what you're saying is, that if someone announced that beef was being injected with a slow accumulating poison (which could be tested for) and grocery stores were told how to test for it (and not to sell it unless it tested clean) that we should ignore it as "fake news" simply because we all agree the grocery stores would simply ignore the issue and sell us the beef anyhow?

This is confusing to me, the large Offroad differential calls for 18 foot pounds the small non-locking differential calls for 33 foot pounds. Maybe that's the problem

Maybe, they could have bumped up the OR torque spec, but I dont work at a dealer so I wouldnt know and it may be too soon for that info to get relayed.

Yeah, left me stumped too. That's quite a difference. Maybe the recall/ update will provide a different torque value. We won't know for awhile.

I completely agree with you & @Kyitty about how it will be handled. I believe Tacos will be moved off the lot today and the inspections (without findings) won't hinder immediate delivery.

My issue is that it is technically a stop sale and that certain people were essentially calling OP a liar and are wrong in doing so.

You forgot the kazoo noise windshield that has been around since 2005.

Well, yes, and no. Part of a dealer's PDI process is checking that the lug nuts are tight. They wouldn't sell you a truck with loose lug nuts, but that doesn't mean there's a "STOP SALE" on Tacomas due to lug-nut-torque issues.

Calling the OP a "liar" would have been too much, but I don't think anyone really did that. Calling this a "stop sale" is also too much. It's a heads up to dealers and an extra PDI step.

There might be hope. The notice says it's supposed to be circulated to all Toyota dealerships in North America.

Didn't see a link to the OP post. Here it is

    http://toyotanews.pressroom.toyota.com/releases/toyota+recalls+certain+tacoma+vehicles.htm
"Toyota dealers will check the rear differential for any oil leakage. If no leaks are found, all fasteners will be re-tightened. If leakage is found, the rear differential carrier gasket will be replaced with a new one, and new fasteners will be installed. If rear differential components are damaged, the rear differential carrier assembly will be replaced with a new one. This remedy will be at no cost to customers. All known owners of the involved vehicles will receive a notification by first class mail starting in the middle of June."

Doesn't address those who have a noisy rear diff.
