Ok guys I know this is a Tacoma forum which I do have one too but due to some circumstances I might have to be changing vehicles. Now I know everyone here is partial to Tacoma's and I've learned so much from you all but I need your honest input and opinions.

I need to be looking into getting a 4x4 truck for a possible moving of states and have been looking at the 2017 Nissan Frontiers sv v6. What do you all think and know of this truck? Is it a good solid truck, on par with a Toyota (I know nothing can beat a Toyota!) or should I not even bother? One of my family members said they are a tin can on wheels but they are Toyota strong only nothing else kind of person! Lol and as much as I'd love to get a 4x4 Tacoma brand new or second hand the price tag on it is not affordable for me right now. The Nissan on the other hand is a little easier for me. I don't want to make the wrong decision and well honestly the members here have never steered me in the wrong direction and I take your opinions seriously. Thanks guys and I look forward to reading from you all! :)

    Nissan is a fine truck.

I don't think they last as long before showing their age, in regards to interior materials and paint, but that's 10 years down the line.

To be honest, you're not going to get a good answer here. Of course everyone is going to tell you to get a new Tacoma! (I agree with them). Your best bet is to join a Nissan forum too and ask them the same question. You're likely going to get told to buy the Nissan and that it's excellent in every way. Just take points from both threads and use them to do your own reading and research.

My opinion, is to get a new Tacoma. If you can't spend too much, get a more basic SR5. Fewer bells and whistles, but all the reliability.

Don't do it. Frontiers are plagued with problems and are know for shitty reliability. Not just as a Tacoma fanboy either, just from a reliable vehicle perspective. That being said, any new vehicle is going to feel nice at first, but within 4-5 years will show you their true colors.
Where do you plan on moving to that you "need" a 4x4? There could be a perceived difference in a need vs. a want.

I had a friend who had a the newer body style Frontier in HS (back when they went from the smaller bodies to the newer bloated ones).

It was a good truck, untill just over the 100k mark. Then he couldn't replace parts fast enough. Side note, He was able to fit 33s without chopping metal though.

And resale is a big driver for Tacomas. Yes it's expensive to get in a used one, but if/when you sell it you feel good about your return. That's why I ended up buying my new. The used prices were crazy so I just puckered up and bit the bullet. Couldn't be happier.

Looking into going to Colorado. Friends told me my 4 cyl prerunner wouldn't make it there in the snow and I needed a 4x4 or an AWD.

Do you need a truck? My wife and I both have Subaru's, and they're freaking amazing in the snow. If you need storage space, the outback and the forester are pretty roomy.

The newer ones are really nice too! I have the Legacy, which is essentially the car version of the outback. The interior is very nice in the Limited trim, and won't break the bank. I got my '15 last September for 23k

LOVE the new Outback design. My wife will probably be getting either an Outback or a 4Runner.

I personally do not like Nissans. I don't think they are quality made. The interiors are very cheap. Of the people I know with Nissans, it has not been a vehicle anyone would buy again.

That being said Toyotas are grossly over priced for what you get. Many aspects they are just a bit better than Nissan in terms of being mechanically sound. People think Toyotas are made to last, I prefer to say they are made to work broken. Many things on my 2013 function poorly and Toyota has no intention to create a fix for these items. The electric fuel pump sounds like it could blow up any day and my leaf springs are causing annoying axle wrap.

I was not willing to buy a frame rot year so I was stuck 2011 or newer (watch my frame will still rot lol) so I paid to get the younger year. I don't regret it but it was expensive and the truck requires a lot of money to modify to make perfect for me.

I think if you want bang for your buck both Nissan and Toyotas are out haha.

Have you checked out Ford. Only maker I will recommend is worth the coin.

Nissan. Biggest complaint so far is the seats are so damn uncomfortable. I commute 33mi each way, and after three days in it my back is killing me.

Get some more opinions. Folks lived in Colorado for many years with 2WD and 4-bangers. It is largely a matter of learning how to drive in the snow. Adding a bit of weight in the bed helps. I lived there for almost 30 years, most without 4WD, and got along quite well. Many of my friends and relatives there have no problems with 2WD.

I have owned 3 Nissan trucks and 1 Xterra. They were excellent vehicles, tho I would not rate their quality as high as Toyota's.

I owned a 2000 and a 2005 Frontier. I wanted a Tacoma, but the Frontier was a bit more affordable. I loved the 2000. The 2005 had more than its share of problems. Nissan service pissed me off. I no longer buy Nissan.
