    I'm not sure anymore. Hahaha. There is the axle housing, the tubes which extend out to the wheels, the gears inside, and then the cover. There are two areas which need to be sealed or leaks will exist, one is for the pinion, and the other is the cover. Excluding the two axle seals at the wheels.

    I had my rear differential replaced once. Can honestly say I never had a leaking issue to my knowledge. I do still have the howling problem which seems to be a different issue. I ran my VIN on the Toyota Recall search engine and it came up free and clear. :thumbsup:

    Looks like the graphic posted earlier has a part (seal or gasket) highlighted. It's between the axel housing and the differential carrier. So it's on the assembly between the drive, "rear propeller" shaft & rest axel.
