What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Ha no problem man. Alright so first thing I would do since it looks like it's welded directly to the closest crossmember of the Tacoma frame is buy a ton of cut off wheels for your angle grinder. Cut all the welds as best as you can to separate it from the frame. Hopefully they didn't fill in the bolt holes on the mounting plate with weld either. Once you get the whole thing seperated from the frame, grind all the welds on the back of the plate flush. Then refer to the post below to setup a new crossmember and that way you can have a bolt on bumper.

Those are front brake lines. So...unless you have a front long travel kit will work just fine with your truck. Be a nice upgrade.

I'm rocking a TG kit right now..but not for much longer.

unless your have a blower or something the street clutch kit would be fine. But the pro clutch kit wouldn't be bad either. Be a bit more grabby.

Also looking to replace my springs, mainly for flex. But also for weight capacity. Hows the ride without much weight?

 

adding weight carrying capacity will always take away from ride quality.

How often are you supposed to replace tc uniballs? What are the signs of wear? Coming up on a year since install, just wondering

 

a few things that have happened over the last week. 1. Added 10k smittybilt winch. 2. Added Deka Intimdator battery supplied by @Low Range Off-Road 3. added a bad ass skid plate courtesy of @22REthan. this thing is top notch!!

 

Well switching to an all steel line will help the brakes feel stronger..but up to you!

The Wheelers steel lines come with the attachment loops for the spindles FYI.

Depends on use and how much shit gets in them. Can last a long time if treated well though. 30-60k. but again, depends on what kind of abuse they see.

 

Are you lubing it? I usually lube it every time I was the rig (not that often)

 

mine have about 50K on them. Over 4 years old. still doing fine.

 

Alright thanks, I'll just keep an eye on them, seem fine now just wasn't sure what to expect. they do see road salt and I wheel it when I can, maybe every other week at most. I lube them when I remember.. a few times a month, I keep the stuff in my glovebox.

 

Checked the deckplate mod off the to-do list. Since putting the 285s on, I've noticed acceleration seems to lag. After this mod, it seems to be better. Is it real or imagined? Does it free up some hp?

 

Imo it's pretty noticeable actually, but I've got a 4 cylinder so even the slightest hp increase on 285s is noticeable lol

the only person that can give you a technical answer to that question is a guy, goes by the name of "DYNO" but like all of us we do things to our truck and notice a difference no one else would....soooo if you notice the difference then that's all that matters

 

I think @chris4x4 used to have dyno results..
