6 speed manual cup holder

does anyone one know if there is an alternative to this stupid thing?

So whats wrong with it exactly?

 

Since it's pretty easy to remove... Maybe you could fab together some sort of replacement. But really, what's the issue with it?

 

I never ever use it for its intended purpose, I only stick junk in there, I would rather have a tray of some sort.

 

I thought about making a tray or something out of wood but those curved edges puts that a bit out of my expertise... my wood working abilities arent advanced enough for that.

 

I like mine! How hard was it to remove? I need to drill some holes to mount some switches....

 

its held in there by four clips, just get a hold of it and pull straight up.

Find a car or truck that has the style tray your looking for and mold the 2 together and paint it.

 

I think I know what you mean, twould have to be a pretty close match in size and the blending... hmmmm, donno...

 

Easy peasy. Google and research "plastic welding". You can make some cool shit with existing plastic panels. I did a lot of this with my VW to make some special custom interior pieces.

Do some measuring then hit the local junkyard and take a walk.

Cut the OEM cup holders so you just leave the clips and a thin frame, then graft the new panel in the big hole. body work it and shoot it in some trim paint

 

plastic welding kit from Harbor Freights, no less... this could get fun indeed...

 

I think I remember a guy on here cutting his up and making what he wanted out of fibre glass, some resin, and some body filler and a rattle can... I'll see if I can find it, no promises though.

 

I've been thinking the same thing lately. The thing is a pain in the ass. The sizes are awkward, and end up being useless.

We are going to have a 3D scanner at work soon. I'm going to try to scan it up and see if I can 3D print a replacement.

I painted mine. I actually do use it lot though.

 

I kept the black one out of my 05 AC and put it in the 08 RC.........but it's a 5 spd I have no issues with it. Comes in handy for more than just holding drinks but the space could be used in many different ways depending on your needs. Could even make something that just pops into place like the cupholders that could be swapped in and out with cupholders when not needed. I might be down for something like that depending on what it was..............but not anything that permanently takes away the use of the cupholder piece.

 

Sand paper is your friend.
Just keep sanding till you like it.

Or find a skilled 3D printer person.
