Alright so ive ridden, researched , called , questioned and researched some more. Narrowed down my bike search to 2 bikes and wanted to get some final opinions from yall. Im aslo going to throw in the third bike ( the norco ) just because i think its a decent deal and love the look of the bike on paper. Now i havent been able to sit on one yet so im still up in the air about it. But geometry wise it should appeal to me just fine. Also like the idea of it being 140mm in the rear.
All 3 bikes i can get through the same dealer

Santa cruz 5010 brand new 2017 r1x build
    List for $2999
Price i can get it at is 2764

Transition patrol or scout the lowest level build 2016 model
    I can get for $2450

    Norco sight 7.2 2016
    $2150 out the door

The transistions and the norco both have droppers. The 5010 does not so i can basically add another $200 to the 5010.

However in return the transistions and the norco have lower grade components to start out with.

Opinions on these options? Any one have personal experiance with the norco sight? It doesnt have the following or mainstream media behind it like the other 2 do which kinda scares me.

Get the santa cruz 5010 or upgrade the parts group on the others. Its always cheaper in the long run to buy the best parts build from the beginning. That is a lesson I learned the hard way. I used to buy the best frame complete bike I could afford, then upgrade parts later on. Now I save if necessary to buy the best complete, and only change what I do not like.

As example, I have an order in for the Chameleon R1+ that I am going to build into a single speed. Once the wheels, tires, stem, seatpost, bars, probably brakes etc are taken off and traded in or sold off, I will save hundred of dollars from building from frame.

^ I would have to agree with this. The Santa Cruz is the better bike out of the bunch as far as quality goes, and it is carbon right?

Steve Peat seems to like his 5010.....

The price i was qouted was for the aluminum. However im going to call back today and see the price difference on the carbon. If he can get the carbon version priced around 3400ish im going to go that route.

And honestly out of the bikes they both feel great to me just slight differences. The vpp makes the 5010 feel more nimble and better on climbs. The horse link style on the scout or patrol makes the rear feel a bit more planted and confident down a little rougher downhill stuff. I assume the norco feels similar to the scout or patrol due to the rear suspension design.

I dig the 5010 i just wish it was a 140mm rear travel bike. Not saying i would ever need it but its there if i ever accidentally or intentionally huck to flat. If i do get the 5010 im planning to put a 150mm on the front and ive herd some guys are putting a longer travel shock in the rear getting them to about 135mm or so of rear travel.

My trail bike is 120 in the rear and it feels great for everything I ride with it. Granted I have a DH bike so it wont see any lift access.

all very good options! but the Patrol is a much bigger bike than the others you have mentioned, therefore will ride much different.

at this point - you really cant go wrong with any of them. i do agree with the others on here, buyer nice components now as they wont be a headache down the road. santa cruz has a great warranty, and they get me a new bike in a matter of 2 weeks when i broke mine.

you've done your homework. not go reward yourself with all that hard work and ride!

Don't be afraid of the Sight, I ride a Range and it's a very solid bike... the Sight is to the Range what the Scout is to the Patrol, it's the all-mountain size instead of the enduro.

Good work on the research, you can't go wrong with any of them - which makes the decision even harder doesn't it?

I can't advice on travel as I don't know what type of trails you'll be riding but as a counter to the components (I know, I just had to), a lower cost to entry now and you can upgrade the components that you want to, when you want, to what you want to...

    Good luck!

Thanks for the input! Called the shop again today. One of the owners talked with me a little today.( owner i talked to yesterday has today off ) he said he didnt have much input on the newer bikes but gave me a price on the carbon 5010 which came out to $3300 out the door which is sweet. He said he would probably go aluminum but take what he has to say with a grain of salt because he rides a old beat up steal hard tail. The original guy i spoke with is going to call me tomorrow.

Thats what i was thinking. I figured the norco sight would feel similar to the scout being their rear suspension setups are very similar. Norcos vendor website was shut down today so i couldnt get a price on a 2017 sight 7.2. They are going to call me tomorrow and let me know.
The 7.2 looks like it comes with the best build kit out of the bikes im looking at and the listed price is cheaper then the 5010. But then i can get the 5010 carbon for a similar price just doesnt come pared with a pike and a dropper like the norco does .

Trail wise im in a mix of both. Local trails the 5010 would be more fun id say and the sight would kinda be more planted. However 30 minute drive and i would say the sight would out preform the 5010 on the gnar roots and rocks and down hill stuff and jumps. Looks like i need to buy both

You definitely want a dropper post, either upgrade after or make sure the bike has one new. Personally I am a bigger fan of fox components than Rockshox. Some people swear by the Pike though, but the new Fox Rhythm Forks feel great. My buddy just got a 5010 Aluminum and I like it because I like shorter travel bikes for any type of XC, All Mountain and light Enduro stuff. The short travel bikes now are actually very capable. I posted this video before, but its me hitting a bunch of decent sized features on my 140/120 trail bike that I normally ride with my DH bike.

It sounds like you want a bike to do everything though instead of multiple bikes. The Norco would be better than the 5010 in that case, but I still think there are better "do it all" bikes out there. My buddy actually rides his patrol for xc riding and he does fine with it and I have a couple other friends that have a Evil Wreckoning and they say it pedals like a short travel bike...

If you were going to buy 2 bikes, I'm not sure I would agree with Dodge about getting both the Patrol and 5010. I would get something with more travel like a Nomad, Pivot Firebird or YT Capra. Or just a DH bike ;)

If you take the front wheel off most bikes will fit inside the bed of a DCSB with tailgate shut. I have fork mounts screwed to a board mounted on the bed floor to carry two 29-ers. Low profile if you have an open bed, and in my case they even fit under my canopy with droppers down. There are pro's and con's ... it can be a hassle to remove and replace the wheel ... but it does make the bikes much shorter and lower.

Im definitely not purchasing 2 bikes right now but im considering going with the 5010 c and upgrading the fork to the helm. Or something that i can run in the 150mm range. Also change up the rear shock to a db air. Down the road anyways. I would love to get on a frame like the evil bikes or yeti to see how they feel. But those bikes are out of my budjet.
And yes if i do go the 5010 route i will be ordering a dropper that day. I like the smaller snappy feel on the 5010 then some of the larger bikes ive tried..i feel like i just plow through stuff on small trails with bikes like the bronson. I definitely dont want to take the fun factor out of the small xcish style trails. I really am beginning to think theres not a do it all mtb that you arent going to have a to sacrifice something.

Weve been getting rained on steady, so not much trail riding. I sold one of my bikes to pay for the new Yeti sb6 carbon. So to break it in I took my friend and messed around urban style for his first time in a minute on a mountain bike. Also we found the mystery machine! "Them pesky kids!
