I don't think it's the gaskets or the torque.

I think it's the diff housing bolts stretching. We've seen a number of people with snapped studs.

Wait, can the housing bolts stretching pull it out of alignment?

Shit wait, that would explain people who had the howl return with a new 3rd, if stretched bolts allowed it to come out of alignment. I can almost guarantee those bolts were not replaced!!

 

even if thats the case it should not be just a retorque then.

Should be a full replacement of the bolts.

 

Indeed, and that's supposedly what we are seeing, someone (forget who forget where) said a few moments ago that their dealer was replacing hardware regardless of leak.

If not, I may pay for it just to be safe. According to that post its only 0.3 hours and then parts can't see it being too expensive.

Replacement is a different story, that requires removing the 3rd member to get at it.

Unless you had your head in the sand, the 3rd gen problems have been documented well before your 9 months of ownership. If you chose to ignore all the warnings, what do you expect?

Dang, was just at the dealer for the transmission on Saturday. I guess I'll wait till I see leaks. I was just starting to love my truck after reading a couple of best truck ever made threads

Why the fuck are people sad about this? With all the known issues with the rear diff the fact they are finally addressing it is amazing. And addressing in the form of a recall so you don't need to fight them on it like a TSB. From what the dealer told me they can't just do a TSB without replicating the symptoms that said tsb is supposed to fix.

Recall is a recall, often safety related. They have no way around doing it. If your vehicle could possibly be effected they still do it. They don't need to wait and see if you have said problem they just address it in the form of a fix if you have it and a counter measure to make sure you don't end up with it if you aren't experiencing it yet.
