Civil would have been to fix what the dealership fucked up and it be as it was when it arrived. The flaming bag of dogshit that the management sent out and the unwilling devaluation of personal property is where civil gets beat down. The end result is they are robbing this dude of his time and money to deal with this and then a blemish on his trade in value if he ever decided to drive anything else. That doesn't sound like civility, be it in real life or the internet. Might wanna convey that to your management since the OP started out with civil & it got him nowhere.

BTW, civil is where you start & when that doesn't work then you move on to something that will work.

Claim in on your insurance, tell them the story and that the dealership would not fix it to your satisfaction and they are solely responsible for the damage, they have an interest in the vehicle as well. They will fix it right, and then go after Toyota Of Dallas legally for the repair costs.

Well, I hear your tone and I'm going to argue, but the words "doing the right thing" get thrown around pretty loosely, and often it only really means "doing what I want regardless".

When I say laying down, I mean just that- throwing a wallet to everyone with a hand out. Now please remember, I say this from the perspective of one who has seen a lot of situations over the years, and I can tell you that the customer is not always right. More often than not, yes, but I have busted countless scams by people I can only regard simply as thieves that try to take advantage of goodwill either by shrewdness or bullying.

Before anyone misconstrues anything, I am not talking about this case, just customer interactions in general. I wish I could have seen the damage before the reapir so I could form an opinion of my own as to what would have constituted an acceptable repair.

As far as the negative impact of situations like this unsatisfactorily resolved, well tell me something I don't know.. not to sound arrogant.

    Pretty much stock
An "acceptable repair" would be whatever the hell the customer wanted. What is acceptable to one person might not be the acceptable to another. Its the dealerships job to make it right, not to the dealerships standards, to the customers.

Although I'm not disagreeing the the OP's position or perceptions, there are lots of assumptions in your post about what was done, what wasn't done, how things were done, what was said, how it was said and what wasn't said... but believe me, I understand your position loud and clear.

Well, I can understand why it may seem that way, but the fact is had insurance been involved the outcome would have been the same, except they would be the bad guys... or maybe we both would have been the bad guys.

I say this of course not having seen the original damage, but as I understand it came to a little over $400 (including paint/materials). I haven't seen the repair order yet to verify this or the scope of the repairs.

If I'm an honest person, and I am in charge of somebody else's vehicle, and I accidentally damaged it, the FIRST THING I do is call the owner. The fact that the vehicle went from the repair shop, to the body shop, and was on it's way back when the OP called and found out more than 'raises doubt' about the dealership's intentions.

I've read all 10 pages and the only thing I've really gotten out of this is that Toyota's customer service sucks (no surprise) and I would be passing on doing any business at Toyota of Dallas if I lived in the area. My sister lives in Texas and drives a Camry... I'll be talking to her.

2 things I see that your dealership has done to this man:
1.) You wrecked his truck, and failed to tell the customer about it until he called.
2.) You will not replace the parts to original condition meaning factory oem parts.
to me this is where this deal is screwed by your company, I will never use your dealership for anything because of this post and I will tell everyone who will listen, to avoid your dealership because of shady practices.
Maybe you need to call Patt Lobb Toyota to ask them how proper business is conducted.

Well sure, I even alluded to that in the first post. :D

I'd rather zip up a flame suit & speak my mind rather than lurk in the shadows praying that it all 'magically goes away'.

Nothing different than what I've said all along, except that even if 'honesty' didn't play into it (I personally do not believe the service advisor did anything intentionally dishonest), just the fact that a call wasn't made immediately will give the perception of a cover-up... and at that point whether or not there was a cover-up becomes irrelevant, because perception is reality at that point. Everyone I've talked to in Service understands this very clearly, now more than ever.

If there is any good to come out of this, it is that understanding, and the fact that the internet is a powerful medium.

Your feelings are completely understandable. You are more sure of the facts than I am however. I haven't been able to discern the truth about statement #1 but I will keep digging- and if I find it to be true I am not afraid to post it.

Truly sorry to disappoint, maybe I'll see you on the trails someday.

Which is it? This seems like more of the very reason this thread stills has attention. Right in the face of facts, discontent for the facts still exists......Unbelievable. Really.

Reguardless of scams you have seen in the past, they have nothing to do with this. We know who's at fault. The op is not bullying, although maybe he should start. You are begining to sound like a spokesman or mediator for this dealership and if you didn't work there I wonder if you would be so partial of them. I would say the damage has already been done to this dealers reputation & they will suffer for it business wise, deservidly so imo.
