No...it doesn't have to come off for the T-Belt job. The water housing and everything is accessible from the top and front to do that job. I took the intake off as I was working through the Air Pump job since I actually switched out the pump.

As far as 4Runner forum questions, responses and research...I use It's not as user friendly as TW to navigate, but it's definitely active, has a lot of historical threads on how to's, and a pretty good classified section too.

ok, so in my case I have no reason to remove the intake until and if I have a starter issue then

the plug and play air bypass mod solves that need to remove the intake and I don't take stuff apart unless its needed.

if I have starter issues i'll definitely do the brushes then, but "if it aint broke don't fix it" is my motto :burnrubber:

I agree...no need to go under the intake except the smog pump/air system (not an issue if you do the bypass kit), the starter, and I think there's a knock sensor under there. Plus a couple vacuum lines. But if you do the bypass, most likely the only reason you'd ever need to go under the intake is the starter.

be honest with me guys, am I crazy to be thinking about going test drive a vehicle 300 miles away?

its the white color I wanted, 1 owner no accidents, no sign of any paint issues, it has brand new tires on it, it seems to be very well taken care of, but then dealerships can make anything look pretty in pictures, its an 06 v8 with 155k miles for $12,999, book value on it is $13,500, it spent its whole life in texas as a corporate vehicle and looks to be in great condition inside and out. and it has the leather seats I didn't want but they look in great condition.

about the only thing I cant find fault on it from the pictures is the little v8 badge is not on the grille.

I wouldn't think twice about it if it was within 100 miles of me but this is 300 miles away, so I would be looking at a $100 for the plane ticket and taxi ride to the dealer just to go test drive it, double that to return home if I don't buy it, or if I do buy it, that's a long 5 hour drive home with it. so I would be pretty much committing to a $200 expense just to go look at it and test drive it, just to see if I want to buy it, which I think I do, unless i find any drivability or warning light issues with the test drive. I really don't have an extra $200 to waste if this is a bust, but then at the same time I don't mind spending that money if I do buy it.

am I just being too impatient and desperate here? be honest, I can take it, sometimes we all need a slap up side the head and told to not do something stupid.

My question is why haven't you left yet? That's a great price, well as far as CO prices go. Some of the 06+ v8s didn't come with the badges. If it has everything you want I'd just on it. Just make sure you get all the pictures and info before you head out

ok, that is good info, I didn't know this and was wondering if maybe at some point the v8 badge was just stolen or if the grille had been damaged and replaced at some point in time since there was no v8 badge

as far as why I haven't left yet, well I guess im waiting to see what the opinions are if im being crazy about this or not lol

ya, its priced right at the retail book which is about average for v8's, the v6 you can get deals on all day long but the v8 is full retail or higher everywhere I see them

I just talked to them on phone, and the guy said he test drive it and it rides smooth with no issues at all, but then he is a car salesman lol, he said inside is perfect but it has a small paint chip by the drivers door handle and also on the drivers side corner of back bumper

we agreed to selling price of $12k even, and a full tank of gas, and I left a $500 refundable deposit to hold it for me

I plan to head down there Thursday to inspect it and do a test drive

I hope it is as good as it is represented to be :fingerscrossed:

if it is, then I need to get the timing belt done and find someone who wants to swap out some gray cloth seats for a nice set of black leather seats

is the v8 badge a separate emblem or is permanently connected to the grille? just in case I felt like adding that extra little "bling" to it?

Nope, it just slides/clips onto the grille. Takes 2 seconds to take on/off.

ok, well its mine now, sitting in the driveway, left 4:30am, just got back at 11pm

I need to buy 2 key fobs for alarm and get a spare key cut (only have the one) plus the cup holder insert is missing so I have to buy one of those. but they gave me a new set of generic floor mats, new battery, and full tank of gas.

had old ugly battery, no floor mats, no cargo nets, a vibration at 70mph and the tire pressure light was on and they put air in tires and balanced them and it was fixed after that but the tire light was blinking after that because the service manager said they needed to reset it with the computer after putting air in the tire, but then he went home and when they brought the truck back after putting the new battery in it, it was still blinking so they didnt know how to turn it off apparently, it was a ford dealership, lol.

they said it would blink for a few miles and then reset, which of course it didn't but after 5 hours waiting to get out of there going back and forth from one dept to the next for every step of the paperwork and service dept for the issues, I just didn't care anymore about a blinking light as long as it rode smooth and everything worked lol.

off hand, does anyone know how I can reset the tire light myself? disconnecting the battery didn't do it unless they didn't wait long enough, do I need a scanner to do it?

EDIT - well turns out I found something out about the tire pressure warning light on another forum, Blinking means faulty sensor, steady on means low pressure. this means I have a bad sensor so I guess i'll be bypassing the TPMS on it. don't think its worth spending over $100 to get one and pay to have it programed, plus I hear they are notorious for failing all the time

but now I have a question for you 4runner owners,

I found I have the common gas door lightly scraping on the fender when opening issue.

since its riveted on, how do you fix this problem?

there must be somebody who has a fix for it by now?

as I understand it the FJ's also share this poor design

I was about to suggest this! The sensors do seem to go out all of the time o_O Not sure about the gas door though...

seems to be a common complaint that the thin back edge of the lip where its folded over by the hinge, sticks out too much and rubs on the paint when you open the door.

im thinking I can just slip a paint stick or ruler or something behind it to bend that lip over a little more and that might be enough clearance to fix it. not sure why then didn't roll it completely over when they made it? it would have been stronger and not as flimsy as well had they done that

would it eventually at some point throw a CEL code, if I took the bulb out of the TPS light, and just let it giving an error signal non-stop forever?

not sure if I really want to bypass the TPS light wires or just take the bulb out for the TPS light
