Pedal Commander: does it work?

Cruise worked exactly the same.

 

I installed it last night and tried a few settings around the neighborhood. Sport 2 is the right one for me. Lag is gone.

I haven't been able to drive it off-road, but Eco felt like it would be awesome in the dirt and rock.

 

i also use Sport 2 as my daily setting. i personally wouldn't say the lag is totally gone, but it is definitely changed and reduced to the point of having fun again.

 

Yeah, after driving up to Costco and back I would agree on the lag. Not totally gone but much more responsive.

 

Saw this and had to chime in. I've owned and used one for the past year and whatever the naysayers think... let em think. I went from an 06 prerunner access cab to a 12 crew trd sport 4wd. I was shocked at how sluggish it was. Took the leap, put it on and wouldn't even consider taking it off. I dont really care about mpg to be honest. No I didnt have it on the dyno. This thing works... it is no where near the same as just mashing it harder. Eco works great crawling through the canyon and city gives me a easy time towing. Sport and up are just flat out fun. You dont really get more power out of your engine but it makes it feel like did. Short of a turbo there isnt a whole lot out that does make a really dramatic diffrence.

good to hear on the reviews from a couple of you. I put off purchasing it
in consideration of the OV tune that dropping soon... no idea on cost though.

 

It is absolutely the same as mashing the pedal harder. You would be absolutely no faster in a drag race.

 

I'm with you, waiting on the OV or any proper tune. there will be no full substitute for that, but in the meantime you still need to pay to play... well, speaking for myself. on a truck I've spent probably 10k modding, this $250 unit is the top shelf piece. it brings the fun back.

and then I start thinking of what kind of fun can be had if we had full VVT from, say, 1500rpm up lol.

 

how is the install of the pedal commander? Any worries about voiding the factory warranty?

 

I respectfully disagree with you on that one. If you dont have one you know the difference I am referring to.

I have had one on my last 2 trucks as well as a car. My bmw had an equivalent built in.

I know how it feels, and I actually like the effect it has. But don't be fooled into thinking it adds power, "removes lag", or makes your truck faster. It simply amplifies the pedal input to the ecu.

 

It is just plug and play. You unplug the connection at your pedal and plug the pedal commander in, the other connection goes to the other side of the pedal commander. Thats it. The wire could be a bit longer but other than that, no complaints

 

True and I stated as much in my post. It does not add power, just feels like it does. But mashing the pedal harder was IMO not the same effect

 

I agree it does feel different. Just don't want someone coming in here thinking their truck is magically faster or less lag as that is not what the unit does. It does not Rev faster. It simply amplifies throttle input.

It is a cool device though

@gainman You watched the video of how it works. It is not the same as just mashing the pedal. It opens the throttle plate much faster than is allowed stock.

Correct, it does not add power, but it makes the vehicle more responsive.

Will it cost you mpg's, yep.

 

Yes. You know what else opens the throttle plate faster? Pushing the pedal faster.

You have to remember, this thing is getting a voltage in and a voltage out. It doesn't reprogram anything or magically swap a new throttle plate motor in there
