Do I have LSD? ('06 TRD Sport)

    Ok....might be a noob-question, but...

    I've got an '06 TRD Sport (DCLB), automatic. I don't see any type of LSD switch on the dashboard to the left of the wheel. But I do see the LSD sticker on the rear differential.

    Is it just 'autolocking'.....or....am I missing something obvious here?

    I believe the 05-08 sport models were the only ones with a true mechanical LSD. they switched over to Electronically (brake controlled) LSD's in the 09+ models

    Interesting...so it is 'always on'?

    Does this have any impact on the type of oil and/or additive I should use? Changing the oil this weekend. Planning on Royal Purple ($! ouch!) 75w90 with the LSD additive.

    Yes, a mechanical limited slip is always in operation. The friction material in the differential doesn't typically like the extra slippery-ness of synthetic lubricants. Better off to buy regular old conventional gear oil and separately a tube of limited slip friction modifier.

    X2 on using regualr dino oil and seperate tube of friction modifier. My LSD differential on my 07 did not like the synthetic junk with the modifier mixed in from the dealer.

    Yep, took your advice and used store-brand conventional and lsd additive. Guys at the dealership also said they use conventional.

    After you change the rear dif fluid be sure to go to an empty parking lot and do several tight left and right circles to get that new fluid mixed in good with the mechanical LSD friction plates. :thumbsup:

    Alright, all done (did front, rear and transfer case). The smell wasn't nearly as bad as all of you wimps were making it out to be. Smelled like MAN to me.

    Fluids were actually in really good shape. Just bought the truck so I had no idea when they were last changed, but I think I probably just wasted a Saturday morning and $50. Oil was still a nice light shade, and had a small coating of 'powdered' metal on the magnet (too small to really consider them 'shards' at all).

    Will do the tight-circle trick!
