Was just gonna do stock yota hubs and everything. Throw some chromoly shafts in and it'll more then enough strength to beat. Then I can throw it under my crawler later on if I decide to get a burg housing or something beefier and abuse it more

Keep searching craiglist too, I ended up with a 9" with detroit locker geared how I want, a housing at ~69" with brand new Currie axles, disc brakes and after selling my old rear end I have paid less than $1k

I ordered the parts for a SUA conversion, through the shop that will be doing the work, back in January. What is the average wait time to get into a shop for the install and fab work, given the built-in lead time of the King bypasses which were 6-8 weeks (let's say 2 months)? I guess what is normal and what would be considered excessive, and my rear is never getting done? Haha

I've never had work done at a fab shop, so I'm being patient but also trying to manage my own expectations.

    Thanks in advance.

Depends on the shop. Some shops will quote a time and get it done in that time. Some shops will quote a time, and it'll take double that time. I usually go with the second one just for peace of mind. Shit happens, problems sometimes arise, your truck is your priority, but that doesn't mean you truck is your fab shops priority. Granted, if they quote you a month for the build and it's 3+4 months later and it's still not done, maybe it's time to start thinking about taking it somewhere else

Totally understandable. I wasn't even quoted a time. It was like let's order the parts, especially bypasses because they'll have the longest lead time. I'm sure I'm low man on the totem pole considering I'm just having the rear down, and not building the whole truck. Just didn't know if there's a point where it's just not gonna happen or maybe they aren't too interested in doing it because it's a smaller job. Thanks

No, if a shop takes the work, they're gonna do it, USUALLY in a reasonable amount of time. A good tell tale is to research the shop and see how long vehicles sit in it for.

Most reputable shops will give you a lead time or atleast set aside a preliminary date. Especially if your handing them money. I've actually found the smaller jobs usually move in and out of the shop quicker than the large jobs because they run into less problems, have less wait time for parts, and most shops are limited on space so they don't want to tie up space for two months with a one week job. They also generally make more money per hour on the one week jobs than the 6 month jobs. I'd find out if your bypass' have arrived and if they have you should be given a time frame in which your truck should get worked on. If your paying full price and not getting some sort of buddy deal, theirs no reason you should be less of a priority unless they are behind on others builds which isn't your problem.

They're a reputable shop in the area and the parts have been ordered and paid for. I wish I was getting a deal. Haha. I do get 'I think King is done with your bypasses' often. And now it's 'I believe we have all your parts in'. Not trying to be that annoying customer, so haven't been pushing. Since I'm new to the process, I'm just relying on their reputation and assuming this is how it goes. I guess if nothing happens in the next month or so, I may be back on here with a truck full of parts looking for recommendations on shops.

    Thanks!

If they tell you they have all the parts I'd just ask them when they want you to drop the truck off. Generally I would figure that in the same statement that the tell you "all your stuff is in" they would mention the next step. I wouldn't consider asking them, being a pain in the ass, that's just planning ahead.

Or you could go crazy and give King themselves a call and ask about your bypasses instead of relying on a shop that you are questioning. Not being a dick here, just saying, if you are questioning the shops reliability at this point, give King a call and see if they've been honest with you or blowing smoke up your ass. if it's one thing I've learned building a truck, shit never happens quickly. Patience is definitely a virtue. Like @glorifiedwelder said, most shops are gonna be making money off of the smaller jobs they can get in and out of the shop quickly, rather than the ones that sit there for 6 months. Time is money.

I'm not sure who the shop is, and more than likely they've ordered your parts, but in the past i have seen where people who acted cool as if they were in no rush, get skipped over by a job or two to get in jobs that were a rush and they were worried about losing. Personally I find it best not to act too casual and just be straight up with the shop and to the point letting them know what you want and the time frame you're looking at. If you act like it doesn't matter at all to you, it may naturally work it's way lower on their priority list. When they tell you all the parts are in. I'd let them know you are exited and would like to know when your appointment is to drop the truck off and when it should be ready for pick up.
