I'm looking at buying a 1st gen Tacoma before summer. My budget is around 10000. Max I could spend would be probably just under 12,000. With my price range and year range, the trucks I am looking at have over 100,000 miles. My question is, would you guys spend that kind of dough on a vehicle with over 100,000 miles? My last 2 Tacomas were reliable for me but I did not own them for very long. Also whats your guys opinions on max miles I should be looking at. Would you guys consider buying a tacoma with over 150,000 miles? I'm trying to stay closer to the 100k mark but there are not a whole lot of 1st gen tacos out there.

i would stay around 100k not much more, if you keep looking you'll find one. the worst thing you can do is run out and buy the first thing you see

there were a couple good deals on some sweet trucks but i hadnt sold my car yet. it seems like all the good trucks appear when your not in a position to buy, and when your ready its slim pickins. there are not a whole lot of 1st gens around my area in good condition.

that would be a perfect scenario. i know these trucks will last forever but i dont want to have to put any money into for repairs.

For that kinda money you can get a first gen with 60k fairly easy I know I have been seeing alot lately in Washington. My trucks got 170,000 and it runs perfect these trucks were built great and there rep shows it. Its not uncommon to see a Taco with 300k+, but with the kinda money you have to spend dont jump on the first thing that looks like a good deal really think it out and imagine driving it for the next 10 years. Good luck

just keep on looking and you will find a good deal.. I wanted to buy exactly the same as you are looking for when I originally started looking, but 5 speed and after looking for a few months a good deal came up and i ended up buying a white 2000, v6, 4X4 5 speed,sr5, trd sport. If you go look at it with cash on hand you can get the price dropped at least $1000. I got it dropped from $9500 down to $7900.. money talks!!! haha. Oh and mine had 125k miles when I bought it.

it seems like you guys got really good deals on your trucks. i have been looking around quite a bit and most of the trucks have about 120k and for 10k or more. maybe its an area thing? i wonder if it would be worth looking at trucks from cali, florida, arizona, texas, etc. any input?

Carfax is only as good as the information that's available or reported on the vehicle...unreliable. Go with a trusted mechanic's inspection.

Here is just something I found in 2 min of looking there out there you just gotta be patient.

I'm selling my 99 Toyota Tacoma SR5 King cab, V6, 4x4, manual 5 speed with only 90K miles on it.
Forest green with light gray interior. (AC, CD, Line-x bed liner, bug shield, new tires, new clutch, recent tune up)
This truck is in immaculate condition inside out and it really shows. It runs great, and is ready to go to work for you.
    Everything works on it.
Call me to schedule an appointment to check it out and drive it, I guaranty you won’t be disappointed.
    .(206).779-6129.
    $9500

Damn you payed a lot. Is your truck TRD?

I bought mine about 15 Months ago and I payed $7900. With 116,405. I have almost 132,500 on it now and its still running awesome. Course its a 4 cyl prerunner.

My brother bought his truck in 2005, a 1996 tacoma 4x4 4cyl 5 speed for $4500. And it had 209,000 miles on it. Now it has about 320,000 on it and it probably needs a rear main seal and head gasket replacement. But it is still running good, it just uses oil. He has not had a Mechanical issue, except a starter that we put in this past fall.

So i would say look around and find the truck that you want. It may take a while to find that perfect truck but it will be worth it when you find it. I looked for my truck for over a year before i found the one i wanted to buy.
