Stained Wheels

Just picked up a Tacoma today. Truck is awesome, however it seems as though the brake dust is like embedded into the wheel. It actually feels rough to the touch. Is there a way to get rid of this? It looks like I might just have to wait until it warms up, sand them down, and repaint them.

 

If you leave brake dust on, it etches itself into the wheel. I have heard to try clay bar, but I don't know if it works. I would personally sugest brake cleaner.

 

I've had some luck with goo gone to get seemingly un-removable brake dust off. Give that a try.

 

I've had some luck in the past with the Mr Clean Magic Eraser. I usually hit the wheels on my BMW with them every spring and it pulls that stubborn brown stain right off.

 

Ya mr clean or acid if you have aluminum wheels that stuff works awesome but burns your lungs if you breath it.

hahaha no that crap works my dads got american racing aluminum wheels they were rusted and the same gritty caliper dust on them sprayed them down with this acid aluminum brightner wheels came out perfect they were shining like they were brand new you just cant get it on your hands or it burns and you just spray it off with a hose

 

The wheels are the stock TRD wheels. Would the acid work on those?

 

I'd say give the Magic Eraser a try before the acid. There's no end to what those things will clean and if it doesn't work you're only out $2 and 10 minutes but you still have something to clean your shower with

 

I am pretty sure they are alloy. Which should be safe to spray down, I just read the bottle and it said do not apply to highly polished, chrome, painted, or clear coated wheels. And I am pritty sure stock TRD wheels are not any of these.

Do not use acid on stock wheels they will turn white!!!! Acid is made for crome......
