quick rear diff question

hey guys i just have a quick question, i have been searching and i cant find a straight answer.

just wondering if the 2nd gen, 2wd (non-prerunner), 2.7L tacos have an 8.4" rear diff?

Yes, 5 lugs have a similar diff set up as the T100s (8.4").

Do you plan on re-gearing?

 

ya im planning on regearing like 4.27's or 4.56's and getting a locker just confused on what size i have haha.

What size wheel do you plan on running? Both sound high, the ratio I plan to run with my 31s are 4.10s to get it back into 'factory specs'.

 

well right not i have 255/55-18 alomst a 30 and im looking to regear for performance and add a locker or lsd because i go camping some times and i do some mild off roading its just a pain in the ass when i get stuck haha

but look at the tire calc for the info i put in: current- 215/70-15
New- 255/55-18

increased power is: 4.27, 4.56

and if i went back to spec i would do lean toward the high end.

factory spec: 3.73, 3.91, 4.11

 

Something is wrong with their rpm calculator, or maybe I'm crazy, but...

I have a 2.7L PreRunner with the 4.11 rear end. I put factory take off 17s on my truck. By the calculator, it says that with 265/65/17s I should be turning 2937 RPMs at 65. However, in my truck I set the cruise at 75 (which is probably 72-73) and I am running around 2700-2800 RPM. Any thoughts how it could be that far off?

 

i think thats an ideal condition. i think real world is a little less cause you also have many other factors playing

 

that is kinda weird but i actually have no idea myabe your spedo is off?? so the rpms just looks funky when your driving haha

maybe someone smarter thaqn me can chime in?

 

the factory speedo is give or take 5% i think. so you might be running actual speed now with the slightly bigger tires, i do with my 265/75/16 actually run the speed my speedo says

Makes since to have more power, the down side is losing MPG. I was thinking of going with 4.56 myself, when I started calling around, more and more people were telling me there is no need for them. So I figured, getting them back into factory spec should be sufficient for my style.

The only issue I've encounter (like every one else) is driving in deep snow. I have to have a shovel to dig my way out of it. I just want to regear and put in a Powertrax lock right so I can do more difficult trails.

BTW, where can you get some 4.27 gears for our trucks?

 

I thought that was just the 1st gens that had the "4cyl" diff and that the 2nd gens had the same size ring just different ratios

 

From here, I think the 5 lugs have 8.4", same as the prerunners. Here is a link comparing the two with pics.
