Got up a little late so I settled for Pisgah National Forest instead of going all the way to the park. I probably should have kept on going. I fished the South Toe and North Toe Rivers and a couple tributaries with hardly any success. I didn't see much of anything other than a couple very spooky rainbows and had only two hookups all day, neither of which made it to the net. Hopefully the fishing picks up soon, or maybe I'm just fishing in the wrong places.

I've been wanting to to try them too, I wish there were some close by. I will have to make a trip up there sometime. My favorite fish to fight to date are amberjack. They are crazy strong. It is all you can do to hold onto the rod and stay in the boat.

Think I'm pulling the trigger on a fish pond sling pack. Local fly shop gives me a 15% discount. Think it's $100 before discount. Been wanting rid of my vest for a while now.

Also, supposed to be going to the white river Wednesday through Monday. BUUUUT...NW Arkansas decided to flood and the lake above Bull shoals opened their flood gates. Now Bull Shoals is about 10 feet from flood stage. If they open the flood gates, the white will be way too high to fish...

Meanwhile in East Idaho. I envy east coast fisherman in years when winter runs long. This was Thursday. Never the less it's supposed to be in the 60's next week. 20170427_095822.jpg

I switched from a vest to a sling pack last year and love it. Wish I would have done it years ago.

It doesn't hang very low. It's much higher than the lowest point on a vest. I've not had any issues with it getting wet.

I sling it and keep it on my back versus under my armpit when fishing...totally out of the way.

What sling pack do you have? I don't carry much when I'm on the water I use a small fish ponds chest pack that's either on my wading belt or on an extra belt sorta like a sling pack. I've been looking at different sling packs for when I hike in so I don't have to take a day pack too.

Have been eves dropping, sorry. I have a Patagucci sling pack and love it. It is actually a bit to big for what I need but I don't tend to over fill empty spaces with useless crap, so it works great.

I have whatever orvis was selling about 12 years ago. It's held up great. Holds all my small stuff, three fly boxes, extra reel spool, and a big water bottle.

Lol livin in trout paradise n jealous of east coasters
I bet u have a world class tailwater fishery within a 2 hr drive that fishes as well in the winter as it does in summer minus the crowds :)
Not to mention the local freestoners n spring creeks n ponds lol
You prolly don't suffer from the stock trout death spiral that is so popular with our fisheries managers
Plus you're allowed to keep like 50 deliciously invasive brookies a day when u crave a fish fry right ?
I'm sure ur jealousy will pass while yer out tossing green drakes in a couple of weeks
Or bouncing down a big western river in a drift boat
    Great now I'm jealous :)
