For those gen one owners who have lifted did you do a diff drop? If not have you had any issues? If so have you had any issues? The diff drop is in my glove box right now can't seem to decide. I lifted about 2.5"

Don't do it. at 2.5" you don't need one and it just lowers the drivetrain you just lifted to get out of the way.

Have you started blowing through CV axels?

I am at 3" of lift and haven't dropped mine, but I also have manual hubs so I don't have to worry about the axles turning when I'm not using 4x4.

I have a drop bracket on my truck I didn't put anything on the truck it has a fabtech 6inch lift , the axles look to be stock angles and makes me feel like I have zero extra travel with my lift and I wonder what I can do to get more travel

Skid plates still work with diff drop so no need to worry about it "hanging down"

There are no downsides so the answer is absolutely yes. Having over 2" of lift is too much for the cv boots, it's not a debate.

You should probably read up on how an ifs suspension works because having stock cv angles means you have the most usable travel.

I have had a 2.5" lift since 2005 and have lost one boot.

How heavily do you use the truck? If it's a daily driver that usually doesn't see dirt or flexing, you could probably get away without. But if you flex and go wheeling I would drop the diff.

I have about 1.75" to 2" of lift on 35's, no diff drop and I wheel fairly aggressively. Still going strong on original CV's with 150k miles, SC'd and locked F/R. No problems at all.

You left off the 5th option.
    5) Yes but all it does it tilt the diff. forward a bit.

    It t
Tilts it a little but it does drop the center line of the axles.

Then I'll be the one to vote 'yes and still issues' because it really doesn't come close to bringing back to stock angles.

Close. It tilts the front part down, or rotates the diff slightly. You will effectively drop the CV axles about 1/2"

Been running a diff drop with the lift for about 2 years (extended travel coilovers, no swaybar). No issues at all. Not a very complicated concept: the diff drop lowers the CV centerline a little in order to counteract the increased CV angle from the lift. Helps alleviate some stress on the joints as well as the boots. Not entirely, but still an improvement, especially if you wheel a good bit. There are no downsides.

However, if you are running too much suspension lift (over 3ish inches), a diff drop isn't going to help you much; you'd be driving around with the suspension near max extension and the CVs at their most extreme angle at all times. At that point, a diff drop would be pointless because the suspension is too far beyond stationary geometry and reliable operating angles for the CVs.

At 2.5" lift, the diff drop will do nothing but help: go for it.

Or learn the hard way like me. I put a level kit on less than 1 month ago and i just noticed this damage this morning. Lift was 3" in the front and 2 in the back. I use the truck as a daily driver. No offroading whatsoever. I havent had the chance, i just bought the truck back in March. The cv boots looked in great shape before i lifted the truck. Im sure if i replace the axels ill just bust them again down the road. Thoughts on prevention?
