Depending on my finances at the time, I may replace my Tacoma with a Tundra or F-150 next spring. Started to notice the value is dropping a little more, so I may want to look at replacing it before my mileage becomes really outrageous and it's worth much less because of it.

That or drive it into the ground.

 

I'm @ 305,500 miles when should I expect the dirt?

Depends. Toyota's don't wear out; they biodegrade. Here in New England, probably by 2020, regardless of mileage.

 

I'm really torn. I like the idea of the EcoBoost, and I'm moving 45 minutes away from work so the added mileage would be nice. I also have always thought Ford made the best looking trucks.

But, the Tundra is tried and true. The 5.7, the Aisin transmission, massive rear end, etc. If I were set on a V8, it would definitely be the Tundra. I hear the 5.0 in the Ford feels like it's tuned more for a car than a truck.

Nothing from GM, Ram, or Nissan really interests me.

 

Not sure where you heard that about the 5.0 but I have not found that to be the case. When I researched before buying my 2013 F150, the 5.0 and the 3.5 ecoboost were getting similar fuel economy in the real world. I wanted naturally aspirated and not deal with turbos so I bought the V8. It tows well and, if you do tune it, it's a LOT of fun. I'd buy another 5.0 in a heart beat, especially since the new ones are 7-800 lbs lighter. I wouldn't rule it out before driving one.

Good to know. A friend of a friend just bought one and apparently his number one complaint was it doesn't feel torquey off the line and you have to rev it pretty high to really feel the power. I have never personally driven one, though. Don't know anyone else with a 5.0.

And to think I get excited when I get to 20 MPG in my Tacoma.

 

I averaged 18 this weekend. Got 26 down slight hill on highway

 

With the way my gas gauge is going down this tank, I think I may have finally gotten summer gas again. I think I'm right around 20 MPG at the moment. It gets really bad in the winter.

Personally, I haven't really noticed a shortage of torque with mine. The turbos spool in at pretty low RPM's, and you've got a nice linear torque line all the way up through the rev count.

 

That's what I've heard about the EcoBoost engines, but not the 5.0.

 

Well, that's probably because it doesn't have turbos.


Seriously, though, when I test drove the 5.0 I didn't notice that it was lacking torque at lower RPM's either. The transmission was mapped pretty well to take advantage of where the power is. But, I haven't driven one with the new 10 speed, so I can't offer an opinion there.
