Hi. I'm about to pull the trigger and buy a 2010 Tacoma. My question is, is it worth it to get the factory Toyota Ipod adapter, and does it show text on the factory radio? If not, do any of the aftermarket adapters show text and allow you to control the Ipod from the steroa just like the factory one?

Basically, I'd like to know whether I should get this option or wait and get an aftermarket one that performs the same or better.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

aftermarket is def the way to go. better sound quality, better output.most have ipod compatible cords that plug either into the front or the back(can be routed to glovebox) and they arent much more than say a 230 dollar toyota ipod adapter or a 120 dollar PA-15 toy

I think you ae referring to an aftermarket stereo. I don't want to go that route at the moment. I like the factory look and would like to keep the indash 6 disc changer. Later, I will use a loc to add an amp and speakers and a small sub, but that's as far as I want to go.

OEM one SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have it and you can't do much with it. At least with the iPod I was using. you don't get the text, can't even change the song to another with the radio, the volume isn't good either (can't adjust from iPod, so the iPod volume doesn't matter).

Thanks! This helps a lot. I will definitely stay away from the OEM one.

this ones tight cause it lets you have full control of the iPod with your stock radio. So no more having to pick up the iPod or have it somewhere around for you to push the track buttons, also the volume is like it should be, not all oddly low for some reason esp. even when you have it all the way to 60 on the stock radio.

I have the GROM and I love it. I swear the sound is better from the iPod than the internal CD player. I haven't figured out how to display text from the iPod even though they claim you can. I have my iPod Touch mounted using a cup holder mount so I can see it easily and no need for the text display. All the steering wheel controls work.

    Some food for thought.....

If you're adding an Ipod to your setup, will you really be using the 6-Disc changer?

Since adding an Ipod to my HU, I have not played 1 CD. Might just be me though.

For the cost of most factory HU Ipod adapters you can get a decent aftermarket HU and really have something nice.

true, there is an abundant amount of aftermarket h.u.'s with usb connection and iPod connectors also. Plus they are fully integrative to the iPod, meaning that you will be able to control them, volume is how it should be, charge them, etc. with the h.u. If you want to add in amps, check the backs of them though. Some only have one set of RCA outputs.
