Nice trade OP. I believe the 4Runner is the most reliable Toyota 4x4 for the money you can get today that won't leave you stranded.

The 2017 is barely out, and KBB is already awarding best values? Appears more of a prediction to me, based on past 2nd gen values.

Good move. I'd love a 4-Runner but can't justify having it, so I'll stick to my 13'. Been trouble free and I am looking forward to many more years with it

Exactly.. and "nosedives" is pretty far fetched IMO. We will see what the values are in a few months when the '18s come out.

KBB awarded 2016/2017 best resale value back to back Torquenews states overall Toyota trucks lead in overall resale values.i mean if you wanna believe they will nosedive its a free country but the numbers and stats don't show that.

Yep, couldn't agree more. I see private parties on CL and dealers selling used 1 owners with ~10-25k miles for the price of what I paid for mine OTD at the dealer brand new 5mi on the odo. Indicates a continued strong market value for the 3rd gens. Again, we will see what the pricing does in a few months with the new release of the '18s, but if the trend continues as it did with pricing from '16 to '17s, it will be the same with a ~$1-2%+ in MSRP, with a steady price on the 17s. Again, that is IMO lol...

most recently a guy traded in his 3rd GEN for a Ford Raptor and he got almost what he paid for it, I think sales for the 2018 will increase along with holding best resale based on the 2 previous years even with the issues(that's just my opinion not fact yet)

Totally speculation. Even he likely does not know how much he really got on trade. Ton of factors there that the dealer uses in the "trade" shell moving game.

Could be true, but not if he worked out a price first. Then once they settled on a price OTD, now throw the dealer the ball of trading in the Tacoma. IF he did it this method, then yes he would know exactly what he would be getting for his Tacoma. But if he gave the dealer this info of a trade in before working out a deal then yes, this would have worked to his disadvantage in knowing exactly how the price break down.

I don't know what the dealer will do as far as the shell game but the OP that sold it was quite pleased with what he got for the Tacoma, he also Modded the truck out quite considerably so he may have invested even more money in it, but in the end the OP was happy with the amount he got for it.

What accessories did he work into the deal? Warranty? Extended maintenance? How much was dealer holdback? What type of corporate kickbacks or incentives (hidden from customer) was the dealer getting on this deal? Like I'm saying, nearly impossible. The dealer is going to make money on that trade valuation and sale. That's what they do best. If they weren't making money, they'll tell him to pound pavement.

Back to the point, the OP got the value back from his 3gen, therefore indicating no nosedive in pricing. Lol
