Are you just paying for the brand? I see people saying AFE is just louder. (I'm basing off sound not performance). I was supposed to get the TRD system installed Saturday. But I'm having 2nd thoughts. I like the sound of the AFE, plus the option of spacer and scoop. (Maybe you do gain a little more with the AFE). At least better MPG with the AFE.

There are no gains on this vehicle with a cold air intake.

aFe sounds great!! The TRD keeps the box, you get a new lid
with TRD on it and a new tube to the intake. I did not get the skoop,
but I do (always) keep the plug out of the front of the box, gives it
    an even better sound.

Thanks @blkbelt42 I'm soley basing this off sound. Sounds like I'll go with the AFE.

Your welcome man, anytime! Don't listen to those fools who say there is no increases and then they can't prove it cause they don't have any Dyno sheets!

No, CAIs don't do shit for performance.

Your first dyno run already has the CAI on.
Your second dyno run is with the addition of the LCE headers.

    The differential? The headers.

Your claim of "proof because dyno sheets" is false until you provide stock truck's Dyno sheets (your truck, same dyno, same day as the other runs).

Do a dyno run on the truck. Then take the CAI off and do one more run. Then tell us how much "gainz" you've lost... Spoiler to save you money: zero.

i have the TRD intake and like it. got it for more sound to help guide my shifts, and honestly it's not quite loud enough still. of course i'm half hard of hearing too.

i avoided the AFE cus the thing is just too ugly for me. the sound can't trump how f'ing ugly and huge it is. didn't want it on my truck.

the TRD has one benefit i really like: a pure cold air draw from outside the engine bay. it's the only intake i know that doesn't take any hot engine bay air directly. no big deal but i sit in DFW traffic a lot and would rather keep engine bay hot air out as much as possible.

for sure the CAI's don't do much for the numbers if anything, but you definitely can feel a slight bump in the throttle sensitivity. no doubt about that, but i pay pretty close attention... it's a bit subtle.

On the first dyno run I took my numbers and subtracted them from the stock specs of the truck, 159hp and 180 torque. I gained a little from the intake not much but still a increase. Them obviously more from the header!

Did you check the Toyota-provided specs against what your dyno says your stock truck puts out?

No I did not but if you see my stock specs with the afe intake are 162.93 hp. and 186.82 torque. So I figured based off of that the truck should have been pretty close to stock specification of 159 hp. and 180 torque, or at least not very far off!

You're talking about <4% unverified gains. It would be more trustworthy to verify the stock specs before calculating gains. What if the dyno that Toyota uses is slightly different than the dyno you used?

Every Dyno is different, not one is going to be the same.

That's the point I'm trying to get across. Just because Toyota's dyno says one thing and your dyno says another after you added CAI doesn't mean you can compare the two. For me to trust your claim that your CAI did anything other than change the sound, I would need dyno charts coming from two tests in which exactly ONE variable changes: the CAI. By changing dynos between tests, you effectively changed more than one variable, then claimed that the gains came from only one.
