And where did you get this info? From the official 2gr fks ecu logic manual? As far as I can tell you are doing nothing but speculate the ecu logic, very little has been confirmed about how/when the atkinson is active. Technical articles only plz

I'm not looking for the thermodynamic definition of the atkinson cycle, or how some random article speculates how it will save MPGs by being more efficient than otto, i'm looking for how the transition between the 2 is determined with our particular trucks. It's pretty hard to say that our trucks are in atkinson when in an OD gear without actually having facts.

    Isn't it a pseudo-atkinson anyway and just a fancier VVT-i system?

If there is nothing wrong with the transmission why has Toyota issued 2 TSBs for the transmission?

Car and driver don't mean anything to me. I own the car and I am the driver and I like mine so car and driver can try to talk to others if they like but don't talk to me.

Are you saying you want an automatic transmission and not one requires a lot of driver input?

Yea, i'd imagine a modern otto-cycle VVT engine should be able to achieve similar efficiencies in a truck application. I really don't need an answer to my question, just wanted to point out that @dsmdylan is being a bit of a hypocrit for calling out members with no hard science when he himself has none.

I think he was just pointing out Toyomann was dodging the fact he was bradwhitenikki (who was previously banned) and kept denying it's him again.

It doesn't drive like 50 year old technology
    from the linked article
Now, I understand all you Smitty types will seize upon the word "downside" but you can blame that on Obama and his 50mpg mandate. Seriously.
But do you understand your transmission is just trying to keep your engine running in the optimal range? It is TRYING to get best possible fuel mileage. It does that because auto manufacturers were under pressure to meet the requirements of Obamas executive "action". I understand the snowflakes don't understand how things work in the real world, but welcome to it.
The transmission actually works pretty nicely, and the truck is a damn good truck.
    Oh what a feeling:yay:Toyota.
