Just received a courtesy call from Bob at Softopper to confirm a couple question on my order from this morning. He also answered a bunch of my questions. Already experiencing the great customer service I keep reading about on Softopper. Looking forward to getting this thing mounted up and put in service for the camping season.

just got my email, doesn't look like we are getting 10% off accessories, just the top, not even the boot. Im still happy, but 10% off of all would have been great.

How much was the upcharge for adding the dark tint rear window?
We must be flooding their phones, I have yet to get anything but a recording.

 

He said $20 but it was $15 on the invoice. But that may be to make up for the extra clamps I got that didn't show a discount. In the end my order worked out to slightly over (rounding?)10% off the total before shipping.

Asked again about the capatability between toppers for 2nd/3rd gens. Was told they only differed on the rear panel and some framing/bars/clips in the rear. She said I would be able to put the 2nd gen topper that I was ordering today on a 3rd gen down the road for about $80 worth of replacement parts. Assuming both had the same bed length of course.

Just ordered. I requested the dark tint rear window, and they said they would put me down for it, but he had to check inventory. Apparently they rarely receive requests for these dark tint rear windows and they don't keep them in stock but build them to order. The dark tint window may no longer be available. He was also curious why everyone keeps ordering extra clamps? He says that nobody ever orders extra clamps except those of us from TacomaWorld.

 

That kinda sucks about the dark tinted window, hopefully they make a few when they realize everyone is wanting to upgrade.

As for the clamps, that seems to be a common item members are ordering after the fact. Most say that adding a extra clamp on each side at the pivot point provides some extra rigidity to the frame.

Hey guys just a heads up. I just got off the phone with softopper and was told they will no longer make the rear windows tinted for these. The reason being is that the softopper for the tacoma comes standard with a clear window and to make the change they have to remove the clear window and replace it with the tinted window. This leaves them with a bunch of clear windows that don't have homes.

So when you call please don't ask for the tinted rear window. They will no longer accommodate these requests.

 

I was told the same. They said they would fulfill the requests that had already been placed, and that of my own. But I could tell they were about to be shutting that option down. Guess I'll see when mine arrives if they gave me a dark window or if I'll need a slight refund.
