Norcal Spotted and BS Thread

I wasn't trained to be a welder, but before I got in the trade I was a shop kid, and the certified welder was lazy, so I taught myself. It's also been 15 years.

 

I got a bottle from Cyberweld already filled with 75/25 for like $150ish shipped? It was the 60 IIRC

 

If your gonna switch from flux core to gas be sure to change the polarity otherwise your gonna play hell trying to get a decent bead.

I have no idea then... Maybe its the nitrocharger/866 combo? Maybe it's tolerance variance from the different factories and model years?

If it makes you feel any better, even with the caster I'm getting I still had to remove fender flares and trim the fender in addition to getting a @Bentrodder cmc.

*Edit* realized it sounded like I was taking credit for another man's work..

 

Autoset 211 should take care of that? I think? I just know I was told to steer clear of flux core because of how messy it is

When I go 220 later this year I'll be in contact for guidance on a decent setup. I talked to you about 110, but I want to do it right the first time.

 

Usually, you swap polarity inside the machine.

And yes, flux can be messy but is useful welding outside as the shielding gas will be blown away from the weld in any kind of a breeze.

Ditto on the windy thing.... Best to have both types depending on elements your welding in.

Maybe solved the problem huh? I just noticed when I took these pics that I had a slight bend in one of the tabs too.

It's funny because just this weekend I found out that these are prone to bending and that they sell reinforcement plates. I wonder how much longer I can run without...

Also, the gent that did my alignment recommended over torquing the cam bolts a bit, saying "factory spec can't handle driving over rocks". Maybe he was thinking of this issue of bending tabs? I can see a slightly loose cam bolt slipping while wheeling hard and bending a tab. But then again I do have a pretty fantastical imagination.
