Just drive it. If/ When it gets damaged, you can fix/ reroute.

I was thinking about adding something like you did but the exhaust guy didn't think heat would be an issue. He has years and years of experience so I trusted him on it.

I was scared of that actuator. So I wrapped it and added gold reflective tape to the plastic piece.

Wrapping it only cost me 20-30 bucks. Worth it for peace of mind at least.

Why not just run it all the way back and have dual exhaust?
Ive already banged mine a time or two. I think its mounted a little bit flexibly cause I haven't smashed mine, only scraped it.

Gas tank in the way on driver side. I don't think you would have space near the spare tire either. If no spare tire you could make it work

I was mentioning the business of the double walled exhaust pipe from the back of the cats on the drivers side over to the Y-pipe flange to someone at work. They said that maybe the reason Toyota did that was to help keep heat in the cat to allow it to warm up faster so as to pass cold start emissions. Does that make any sense?
I wish we had a contact with Toyota Engineering who could tell us what the real reasons for the double walled exhaust are. I'm thinking more and more that it is just heat shielding for the T-case.
Someone said that I was just overthinking this. I had to laugh at that. They are right on the mark. But it's the engineer in me I'm afraid.
In the end the more I think about this I believe I'll reroute behind the T-case. Less chance of the rerouted exhaust pipe rattling against the frame that way. And plenty of room to put in heat shielding. If I don't reroute it then it's going to get crushed sooner or later on a rock sticking up in the trail.

I don't think it has anything to do with keeping heat in the cat converter. It's double wall after not before the cat. Also the passenger side is single wall. I think it was double wall in that section to keep heat away from everything else near it. If you notice there is less heat shielding in those areas.

Does the TRD Pro exhaust do the same?
