Truck hesitates to take off

Hey there, my 2015 hesitates to take off. Engine responds like it's in neutral then kicks in and jolts. I just changed the oil and the filter. Filter is

k&n hp 1002. I'm just at a loss. Initially I put 5 qts of oil in and the dipstick read that it was severely over filled. I drained it and now there is no oil coming out of the pan, but the dipstick reads its still over filled.

 

did you wipe the stick off between checks? I always pull the stick out, wipe it with a rag, put the stick back in all the way, then pull it and read

Uh oh, you drained the transmission fluid and filled your engine oil with 2x capacity sounds like.

 

DO NOT DRIVE IT as it sits do some research and re-fill the trans the proper way (or take it to a shop as it can be a little bit complicated if you aren't competent) and also do not start your engine until you drain the engine oil (will be another drain forward of the one you drained) and refill with proper amount.

EDIT : you are checking the engine oil dipstick, while draining the transmission fluid if you are still not understanding. Just hope you didn't already do damage to the transmission

 

Let it sit for a good half hour or so, and read the dip stick again. Tacomas pull oil up the dipstick tube when you check and so you will get oil on the dipstick from that when you recheck. If you are still showing oil, exorcist is likely correct that you accidentally drained your transmission fluid instead. In that case, follow his advice.

As others have already stated. Stop. You have drained the transmission and doubled the oil level in the engine. Many have done this before you, so don't feel bad. The most famous was Krazy!

or the fact that the drain plug pulled isnt even under the motor???

I can't believe how much this happens. It doesn't make sense

 

Have it towed to a trans shop or dealer. Its a sealed trans so not easy to refill and know you did it right.

How far did you drive it. BUT DONT DRIVE IT ANYMORE

 

If you just drained the transmission pan, chances are, you only lost about 3-4 quarts of fluid. There's probably another 5-6 quarts inside of the transmission. You're probably okay as long as you don't continue to drive the truck. I'd purchase 4 quarts from the dealer and refill the transmission. There's a special procedure to check the "sealed" transmission, but it's not difficult. Just time consuming.

Just don't fill the radiator with trans fluid

 

LOL, I almost did the exact same thing when I first changed my own oil; lucky that I took notice that the bolt I was about to remove was on the transmission pan. This is why I wouldn't take my truck to a local oil change shop because they will most likely make the mistake of draining the ATF. It is easy to make the mistake.
