New 2.7L - 5 spd hard to start!

I have about 50 miles on a brand new Tacoma Access Cab PreRunner with the 2.7L engine, 5 spd manual tranny. 50 miles is nothing but it's all been in town with many short trips (very small town ) so there have been a lot of "starts". I know that your foot has to be on the brake and then the clutch depressed to start the engine but several times when I have turned the key nothing happens - I try four or five times and nothing - no sound of the starter trying to turn over the engine. I sit there a few minutes and try again and it starts. When it starts the battery seems to be strong and the engine starts as you would expect it to. Any thoughts on this? It's one of those things that has happened 3 or 4 times but I know if I stop by the dealer service department it likely won't do it to demonstrate to them the issue.

sounds like to dont have the clutch engaged all the way.

 

Just take it to the dealer and get some warrranty work done. While your at it get a Toyota Corrolla loaner.

 

You have to basically push through into the engine compartment with the clutch to get the 2.7/5 speed started.

Seriously, it sounds like your clutch switch needs to be adjusted, no big deal.

You don't have anything behind the clutch pedal impeding it's travel, do you?

 

Thanks for all the replies. I will make sure I have the clutch pushed all the way to the fire wall for a while and see if the problem happens again.
I am retired so I have lots of time and today it's warm (been cold/rainy)
and a beautiful day so I am just going out to ride around and enjoy my new Tacoma! Thanks again!

 

Not thinking the brake pedal needs to be pushed while starting the 5 speed. If your parking brake is on then just focus on pushing and holding the clutch pedal all the way to the floor and don't worry about the brake until you release the emergency brake. Mine doesn't require anything being done to the brake while starting, just the clutch. Become one with the machine grasshopper, lol..........
