What's the largest tank you can put under the bed AND keep the spare tire down there as well??

Not sure about our Tacos, but I had a 3-gallon Sun Performance tank under there, just in front of my 33-inch spare, in my '84 4runner. You really don't need larger than that. I used my A/C compressor for air, so it could be pressurized pretty quickly.

    I made a thread here ----> https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-ideal-compressor-location-long-box-only.488023/

but I will copy paste here as well, as this thread helped me a lot with my install.

Sorry to all you DCSB guys, this one is only for the DCLB and AC crowd. I figured I would finally write a thread on my OBA install, after having it mounted for 4 months. I wanted to give it a healthy shake down to make sure my install location worked well before sharing it.

I am betting that this has been done before, but I couldn't find any information on this compressor location anywhere. I had read the entire OBA mega thread before I did this project, and knew about the spot behind the tail light. That's where I had planned to mount my compressor originally, until I looked up in there, and saw how completely covered in mud and grime that area was on my truck. Discouraged, I began my search for a better spot.

I didn't like the under the hood option due to hot air, and running way more air line than I really wanted to.

but finally I found this spot!:

If you can't tell where that is, it is directly in front of the passenger rear wheel, between the bedside and the bed itself.

I mounted the compressor directly to the bed, on it's side. and if you wanted to run dual compressors, there's just as much room on the driver's side (I'm hoping to add another compressor there eventually).

I mounted my tank under the bed where the spare would go, like most people do. It doesn't even come close to hanging below my HC rear bumper, so I'm happy with that. I had to use some iron to get the bolts to line up with the "valleys" of the bed, as the viair 2.5 gal tank is exactly the wrong bolt hole spacing.

I mounted my pressure gauge/switch in the passenger side cubby behind the AC power, and wired it into the keyed trailer power, so that the compressor can only run if the truck is on. I conveniently located the compressor intake in the cubby above the wheel well for nice clean air. and finally, I drilled a hole through my HC bumper, just beside the license plate for my quick connect, as it's nicely protected in that spot, as well as easily accessed.

After pressurizing my system to 150psi, I lose maybe 10-15psi every few weeks if I just let it sit, so I'm very happy with that! Though I am generally using it quite often for various things

My compressor stays much much cleaner in this location rather than behind the tail light, but is still totally hidden and out of the way.

Alright guys need some advice, I've been using my ARB twin stand alone just for tires and tools but am now adding a tank and a locker into the mix so it's time to plumb it out.

    1. ARB twin mounted w/ Slee mount under hood
    2. Plumb direct to tank with 3/8 OD Nylon hose
    3. 200 PSI tank
    4. Tank output to 4 port manifold
    5. 1 output to front bumper w/ air coupler mounted to bumper
    6. 1 output to back bumper w/ air coupler mounted to bumper
    7. 1 output with regulator to my on board water tank
    8. 1 output to ARB locker - does the air locker come with an electronic pressure regulator & switch that would just go inline between the tank and locker ?
    What am I missing ?

I've read posts about folks melting air lines and/ or having probs with push style fittings so what is the best line and fittings to use ?

If you use DOT push to connect fittings, they won't give you any issues. The airline from your compressor to the tank needs to be a proper airline. Not necessarily braided in my experience, but certainly not the normal plastic tubing. Some guys will probably say otherwise. from the tank you can use regular 1/4" tubing.

I've been running semis with kilometers of air line all with DOT push to connect fittings, and they very occasionally leak, but there are about a billion of them on each truck so the few on yours won't be a problem, especially for a non-essential air system, un like how it is in a semi

edit: this is just my experience and opinion! :) others may have different opinions or experiences!

The same shit everyone else has.
DOT PTC fittings work fine if you trim the airline square. I use them in air ride installs with no issues.

You dont necessarily need to run a solid line from the compressor to the tank, but you SHOULD run a SS leader hose off the compressor. Run the leader hose off the check valve on the compressor to the water trap, then you can run nylon hose from there to your tank/manifold/ect. The leader hose soaks up most of the heat from the compressor.

You run a water trap before the tank ? Most of the moisture occurs from condensation in the tank so wouldn't you run a water trap between the tank and the manifold to catch the moisture before it hit your devices ?

The same shit everyone else has.

I had a big long thing typed up then my computer crashed, but heres the gist of it

My truck doesnt have a tank, but this thing is bagged and did daily driver duty for a few years so it has to be super reliable.

    The set up consists of...

Viair 444 > check valve > leader line > SMC water trap > 5 gallon steel tank > SMC water trap > VU4 manifold > air bags

Youd be surprised how much moisture the compressor makes when it cycles multiple times a day.

Id confidently say the trap between the compressor and tank collects 80-90% of the moisture the compressor makes.

When I drain the trap after the tank, it usually spits out a rusty mist. When I drain the other trap, a puddle of water comes out.

If you run a steel tank, I would spend the 30$ and add one before the tank so it doesnt fill with water. Personally, Id rather have all that moisture collect in the water trap and not sit in the tank. Just let the little bit of moisture and rust thats in tank get collected by the trap down stream of the tank.

It looks a lot more exposed in that picture than it actually is, but there is no way I will hit it on anything. It's pretty high up in there! you can't even see it underneath unless you actually get down on the ground and look up

Airgas nearest my casa fills mine no problem. They are the priciest tho averaging 23-25 bucks a fill when compared to the fire extuingisher place up the street. Which is always 15 bucks, but they have the wierdest hours and its hit or miss with them.

You forgot to mention that co2 permeates through tires and you lose pressure over time...

Got this going today, it's rough for now but it will work. And yes I know that the drain isn't supposed to be on the side of the tank, I have to finish next weekend. I have lots of swagelok and SS tubing at the shop, now that everything is mounted I might run hard line for everything. Any ideas on what would work for through the cab floor ?? It's just squeezed through the large rubber grommet in the back of the cab floor.
Update: installed 2nd tank and copper tubing
