We actually prefer hats for the local parts stores who aren't in business anymore; they're cheaper.

Case in point: I had to spend actual money on my camo hats. Both of these were free. I've definitely had the one on the right for a lot longer, though...

Preach. I also do not understand this trend.

yes, recommended every 2 to 3 years, why would you hold on to shit any longer than that? It all depends on how much usage and how big your tank is.

 

I'm not having any issues. My brother in law bought a brand new house At the same time I bought my house a little over 3 years ago. He had it back up into his house. So I figured I'd ask. Guess I'll just have someone come take a look at it to be safe

 

My parents always did 3 years for a family of 5 and it was fine.

Title 5 inspection report for the house I'm buying also says it should be done every 3 years, but I'm one person and I've been told that's based on a family.

 

Yeah... the more people in the house, the more frequently it should get pumped from what I was told.

 

2 adults and a 2 year old that shits his pants still . 1000 gallon tank.

 

It really does go back to the size and use of the system. I let mine go a little too long (12 years) and was planning on getting it pumped that spring...it had other plans and I ended up with a basement floor literally covered in shit. Every other year might be overkill, but I'd pump it every year if it meant I never have to deal with that again.

 

Sounds like the state is letting the designers cut corners with the design of the leach field. Where I grew up, no one had their tanks pumped unless there was a problem that forced them to do so. I grew up on a cul de sac and I only saw 2 or 3 houses ever have their tanks pumped in over 20 years.

Could be. I know my house is "old" per say... built in the 70s I think so that might have something to do with it.

 

It's not necessarily the leach field, it's the solids tank.

 

Sounds like these are cess-pool type designs, not leach fields. That could be the difference. If it's designed as just a holding tank, then you'd have to get it pumped. Where I grew up, they used leach fields so you never needed to pump the holding tank.

 

I had this happen a few years ago, about a year after the last time I had it pumped. The problem is, they broke the cover and I had plywood over it for about 2/3 months and we got a shit ton of rain. They told me my leach field was no good and thats why I had the issue. Every thing seems to ok now, but I have it pumped more often now than I used to.

 

Yeah I'd like to avoid that at all cost lol

 

I know this is a B.S. thread, but I think we are taking it to a new level with the shit talk around here today.

 

I believe mine is a 1500 gal, so maybe that's why they said 3 years rather than 2.

Interestingly enough, it hasn't been done in at least 2 years because the previous owners never did it and they said there was virtually nothing in the tank.

 

I have wondered how much the wet weather affects the leach field.

 

I had a backup onto my condo and I had city sewer. Tree roots clogged the pipe. I spent all night trying to clean and not throw up

 

Growing up, my parents had ours pumped only 2 maybe 3 times. My dad was really good about adding Rid X to the system on a regular basis

Happened to me in an apartment in Quincy. That sucked SO bad!
