darn, I really wanted a tinted window instead.. I just placed my order via online order and asked them in my email. :( It might be a deal breaker for me.

I think folks will still have the option to add the dark tint window to their order. You just may not be able to substitute the dark for the standard. I'd call before writing it off. If you're at all interested in getting a Softopper, now is the time. They don't go on sale and Group Buys are seldom.

I just received my updated invoice with the discounts. They added $15 to substitute a tinted rear window, so that's a good sign.

Also received my refund via PayPal. It looks like the discount was applied to the boot cover, mesh panel, and the topper but not the extra set of clamps.

    EDIT:

I ordered online and sent a follow up email regarding the tinted substitution around 2:45 pm est. I haven't received a phone call or an email other than the automated ones.

If you buy the tinted window AND the clear window I think that MIGHT resolve their concern of having to figure out where to send all the extra clear windows. I was told that they do it as a custom order sometimes, but with every other phone call requesting the tinted window instead of the clear it was understandably getting pretty frustrating.

The guy I talked to on the phone asked me to get on here and tell everyone that they have completed a couple orders that way but will not do any more.

As a business owner I understand, the extra work it takes to trade a tinted window for a clear one after the topper is already made and ready to ship out is not worth the extra $$ they're charging for the substituted tinted topper.

I can understand it as well, but that would mean that when they receive an order that includes the accessory tinted rear window, they have to custom make it everytime. I would think they have a few made up and in stock to send to those who added that accessory. And for those who requested the substitute, they would just take out the clear rear window piece and drop in the tinted one. They sell the clear one as an accessory too.

I don't want to seem like I'm bashing their business process, they can proceed how they see fit. It just seems a bit odd they don't want to make more of the tinted ones for the substitutions unless they were planning to remove that accessory completely.

If I can sell my camper shell in time I'll be picking a topper up.

So to be clear, I should order a tinted window rather than ask to swap?

Yeah I feel ya. I'm super glad they agreed to do this group buy. It saved me close to 100 bucks. Maybe in the future they'll start the make the tinted rear window as a standard option since they're seeing how popular they would be. To offer that on their site they might have to bump the price up just to make up for the extra headache of producing and shipping out a tinted window option.

I think this is the problem:

It also probably messes their inventory up all sorts of ways. And as someone who has worked at two different retailers that do their own inventory every year, I can understand the fact that they just can't honor the request. I was going to ask for a tinted one too before all this went down. It sucks, but it's understandable.

I called them to order, had them configured the order that way. This was pre group buy.

They can just toss in an extra window in my order, I won't complain.

I think we are saying, and reporting the same information to the community. Just in different words.

I didnt get the impression they were saying adding a dark tinted window to an order as an accessory was no longer going to be an option. After all, it is listed as an accessory.

If they had told me I couldn't substitute, I would have happily added the dark one as an accessory.

Softopper was gracious enough to be hooking everyone up with a deal. My intentions are to respect their needs as a small business, and rock their solid product while saving a couple bucks if I can. No more no less.

Will the softopper work with the factory tonneau bed caps on the 2016 or will those have to be removed for install?

Wait... so it doesn't work with the cut bed rails for the factory tonneau?

I thought I read somewhere about being able to swap back and forth between the two.
