Possible Fix - Door Seal Noise

That's pretty much what mine is. I don't notice it driving really, although sometimes I think I do now, but that's probably just in my head. I hear it getting out though. I good powerwash this weekend helped a little but it's still there. Might mention that at my next service in a month.

Wish I could be more help on the window issue too, mine was a door trim issue. Getting new weatherstipping on my door fixed my problem, and that noise was by far the worst thing I've ever had in my truck, drove me nuts! I understand your frustration and hope you figure it out.

 

Any idea what the part# was that they replaced on your window?

Toyota replaced all seals in my 2011, still does it. Actually got worse with the new seals they put on.

 

I don't have the exact part number, but it's going to be something close to this. It's just the weatherstripping that runs on the door itself, just inside the edge of the door. Check out my post earlier, #106 (page 6 I think), it shows the weatherstripping on the door (first picture). There's also another good shot of it on post #131 (page 7). I just took it to my dealer and after complaining a couple of times, they finally just said we'll replace it under warrenty. It definitely helped with about 90% of the noise. I notice some noise when it's raining and I open and close the door but it's soo much better than before. Sorry I can't be of more help, I'll try and search for a part number in the next couple days for you.

 

My truck did this when it was new. It stopped making the noise at the drivers door after 20000 miles.

 

Yeah mine is much better but it just drives me crazy. My wifes 4Runner is almost 6 years old and not a sound. Thanks for the info!

 

Has anybody tried a UHMW tape where the weatherstrip meets the door frame? Something like this instead of just "scotch tape": https://www.findtape.com/JVCC-UHMW-...Polyethylene+%26+Skived+Teflon+(Low+Friction)

 

Been a year and a half since I started this thread or even updated my situation. My tape fix worked pretty good for several months. Then one day while I was washing the rig I noticed the tape had yellowed some. So I figured I would replace it. I'm pretty certain I used the same white tape as I originally had. But for some reason it really didn't work the 2nd time. I have no explanation.

So a few weeks ago I tried the tube in the corners fix. I inserted about an 8" piece of vacuum line in the corners of all 4 doors. It's been 95%+ quiet. No other additions....silcone, Armor-All, etc. It's been fairly cold here lately and it's been quiet.

BTW, I already had the vacuum line in my stash and it was not labeled....so I can't be 100% sure what size it was. It was probably about a 1/4" or so.

 

Just an update on things the last 18 months. I quoted my first post just remind people of my original fix.

That brings me to yesterday. The tube in the corners as been pretty effective over the last few weeks. But I decided to try something else to improve it even further. I placed some white electrical tape (Scotch brand) in the jam corner where the door seal corner makes contact. It runs about 8" or so either direction from the corner, with a couple of smaller pieces in the very corner to bridge the gap.

Very hard to see it in the pic...as it's white on white. Hopefully you get the idea. I will post results in a couple of weeks.

BTW...I still have the tubes in. So the tape is supplemental.

 

I was getting the kazoo noise but it was coming from my windshield. It would do it constantly at 75+ mph so I narrowed it down by pushing on the windshield, and I could change the noise depending on where I pushed. I just bought all new weatherstripping from camelback Toyota and so far it has stopped the windshield noise, so I wonder if it's a combination of poor weatherstripping/ an improperly sealed windshield? Before this I tried inserting some od tubing into my weatherstripping to no avail, the new stripping is the first thing to have actually worked.

 

Yeah...this is a separate issue from the kazoo noise. This is the "squeaking sound in your ear" many of us have.

I haven't tried the electrical tape yet but I do have some 1/4" tubing. I put about 18" of tubing inside the weather striping on the upper corners. Seems to cut down noise significantly, especially while driving 75 mph on a windy day.

 

Drip line tubing made a huge difference for me. I don't know how much is in there, maybe 3ft worth but it did help. Summer months get worse but its a hell of a lot better than what it is.

Weird thing is the passenger side has no noise at all.

In the door seal on the door. This isn't my pic but I used the the little holes to feed drip line into it. Lube up the drip line and be careful or the hole may rip open more. That's what I did and it helped out quite a bit.

 

Ah, now I understand. Will have to try that out as I have that awful squeak after off roading from the doors.

 

You can try adjusting the door striker and see if it moved a bit. I spent hours messing with mine and it helped a bit, but the drip line/tape made the biggest improvements.

 

Just sprayed both seals with silicone on mine and it fixed it. No mess and no noise for months

 

I think I've been dealing with this same issue on my June-2011 model. I thought it was the door card loosening because of how many times its been off and on, but its not the door card. I'll try to taping method on the seal before wasting money on a new one.

These are various conditions which makes the leak more apparent -
1. On Rainy days - I can hear the high freq road noise (other cars' tires on wet road whizzing noises) coming into the cabin at my left ear (with the windows up of course) on the door

2. With the subwoofer playing at quiet levels, I can hear very low freq bass- and bass-guitar notes creating an air-leak at my left ear location (with windows up) on the door.

3. Now that the temperature is changing to between 30s to 50-60s F back to 30 F each day/night, the constant seal squeak and clicking noise has re-emerged. Once the temps stabilize for the season, the squeaks kind of go away.
