The rear Diff recall is just the start

Yeah, seeping rear end brought me back

 

wipe some with your finger and stick it in a nostril and take a big sniff. Gear oil has a very distinctive smell that is nothing like motor oil.

 

a seeping rear has to get some attention.

 

did that, it readlly didnt have any smell. just smelled like wet metal. did not smell like gear oil or motor oil. but, it is for sure some sort of oil since it didnt dry up

 

Good to know.... is your rear end howling too?? Completely normal... maybe due for a lube!

 

The diff "fluid" is 100% synthetic, doesn't smell like traditional dino gear lube does. Much more mild flavor too... can't use it for aftershave like the old stuff.. the synthetic washes off too easily.

Yeah I have been told this is normal when I took it in back in Feb for the seepage then I took it back and its still normal b/c I'm an offroad but have all the same issues as the recall.

Agreed. Sounds like the dealer meant to say "all REAR differentials" or just an idiot service advisor (I've met a few).

 

better sop up some of that oil and send it to Blackstone lab for chemical analysis I smell a law suit brewing $$$$$$ you could be in the chips

Not sure why anyone would, but I did make a post in the Diff Howling Thread a few days (week?) ago mentioning that I'm occasionally hearing some kind of howling-like noise (that is not the rear diff) that seems to be coming from the front. Might be related, might not be, might be just my imagination.
