I am suddenly tempted to go against my policy of never ignoring anyone. Seems it would be extremely beneficial.

I was in your shoes last Wednesday... until my dealer found the truck I wanted. So imagine the glee when after buying it Thursday, I was greeted with this forum littered Friday with threads about the transmission stop sale slash recall slash apocalypse. I'm not regretting my choice, but I'm paying close attention to my truck and the first signs of an issue it'll be going in.

The internet's greatest feature/bug is it's a wonderful vehicle for screaming curses and complaints into the ether. Nobody yells about happy shit.

16 months and 35k later, truck runs fine. no regrets. TSBs helped, and i don't seem to suffer any howlings or vibrations. also, 22 mpg average is wayyy better than my old '98 Dakota's 13 mpg. towing and hauling lacks a bit, but that's why i held onto the Dakota!

No regrets here... but I avoided the automatic transmission and went with the 6MT. If you do enough reading, you'll find complaints/concerns about just about everything on the road. Do take a nice long test drive though.

    I never get this comparison.

If you have trouble remembering a key fob for push start, guess what...you'll have trouble remembering your key. It's no different. You need a key to start your truck or you need a key fob.

No problems that weren't resolved (bed alignment, trans flash).
4x4 v6 off road automatic... no diff howl, no vibes.
better truck than the Xterra off road I had before it.
Like all new vehicles has some quirks sometimes.

I can't see making a different decision that I'd be as happy with, maybe a 4Runner Trail Premium, but CO, they are still on a high premium as well.

So really I love my Taco, she's a genuine pleasure to drive everyday!

I'm not the best person to answer the OPs original question, only into my truck for 5 days now. Someone earlier commented on the ride quality SR5 vs. Sport vs. OR - I have the Pro and find the suspension to be very stiff, not really floaty at all (but that could change with higher speeds... hard to tell on a flat highway). I also have a 2014 FJ TT with Bilsteins so there's my comparison - it just feels like the Bilsteins have a softer ride. I don't actually prefer one over the other just like them for different reasons.

Ill share the little knowledge I have. I just got off my lease from my 15 Tacoma and have had my 17 ORDCSB for a month now. I've been lurking on here for a while reading the complaints but went through with the 17 anyways. The truck in my opinion, feels like I am always towing a boat. I'm hoping the transmission " learns " and driving it gets better but the more I drive it the more I hate it. My wife's 4 cylinder rav4 in eco mode feels like it has more guts then this truck. But I have a coworker with a 16 and he loves the truck. Everyone is different that's why no one can tell you what you should do. Long test drive is my recommendation. I didn't take near the length I should have so its my fault. If I could do it again I would be in a 4runner for sure. Glad I only leased this one for 3 years.

No. When it came time to replace my 2nd gen Tacoma I kept an open mind because it was a let down. Bought a used Frontier Pro-4x with a 6mt and its been great. Haven't bothered looking at a 3rd gen.

This is my experience with my wife's push button start. Never have a clue where the key is.

I have no leak and just made an appointment to have my rear diff checked. I'm not sure what else I can do at this point but my rear diff looks pristine. I'm almost ashamed it looks so clean under there. Maybe I should take it wheeling before I take it in so they don't pull my man card on the spot...

That is my my thought as well. I've been around enough to have a general idea of what is going on before I take it in. You also read so much crap on here about Toyota deeming the howling noise normal until its mind boggling. I had them pull that crap on my second gen with terrible vibration. They made it much better but those vehicles all had some degree of vibration, or at least all e ones I drove did.

I started a thread to thank everyone for their help on this board last Saturday after I traded my 2017 SR5 DCSB to a 2017 Chevy Colorado. The thread got locked before I got a chance to unpack WHY I made the trade. Who knew that thread would go sideways?(\sarcasm)

I owned that Tacoma for 6 months and 3 weeks (9000 miles). I won't repeat all the issues but suffice it to say they were many. I sincerely believe I just got a lemon this time. EVERY SINGLE MANUFACTURER HAS LEMONS. Nobody is immune. I think it was just my turn. The wife and I have this discussion every single time we buy a car - it might be a lemon and we need to be prepared to deal with it. Thankfully, I had tons of equity in the deal so I was positioned well.

I contemplated REALLY hard trading my SR5 to a TRD OR or even a SPORT but when the recall hit, those thoughts got shut down hard (and yes I know the recall may not have applied to them). Plus, the closest Toyota dealer to me was 120+ miles away. I had to take off work for every single visit.

I literally drive by a Chevy dealer every single day.

The Colorado was a better "fit" under the circumstances. Is it a better truck overall? Time will tell.

Knowing what I know, there's no way in hell I'd buy another Tacoma RIGHT NOW. When Toyota fixes all these issues, maybe BUT they have a lot of ground to make up in the market. The new Ford Ranger will kill the Tacoma even if it's nowhere near as aesthetically pleasing.

Just my $0.02 and worth much less.

Yeah, geez man, there is just so much crap that is not like Toyota going on. Again, I love mine so far and HOPE that they will fix the rear diff issue and I never see them again outside of my regular maintenance.
