I guess Toyota better be paying some folks vehicle payments, then. That is ridiculous!

That's why I'm not taking it in until I hear from them that they
have documentation on the proper process as well as the parts
in hand. They don't expect to have everything lined up to begin
the 'fix' until sometime in July....they hope!

I was thinking with what I saw under there, I'd be good for a
checkup, tighten the nuts and gtfo! you're done. :D

Mine is not showing signs of weeping, I checked it last week after the initial recall was announced. I thought if they found a leak they would just regasket and move on, if not, check torque and move on? This just became a shitshow it appears.

Surprised yours hasn't fallen apart yet.

-I had to have my instrument combo meters replaced due to trip meter resetting and speed/tach needle's hanging
-Had four visits to dealer (including a meeting with FTS) to remedy squeaking leaf springs
-Rear differential replaced because it was howling, now the new one is howling
-Right rear shock was leaking at ~23K miles (replaced myself with 5160s)
-Needle bearing failed after 1.5" lift (fixed myself with ECGS bushing)
-Lower Control Arms howling (fixed myself with Lowes plastic plugs)
-Window makes kazoo noise when at highway speed in strong crosswinds--haven't addressed yet
-Transmission has had two software updates, still lugs/stutters (engine misfire?) and shift flare in morning from 2nd to 3rd gear
-Rear end "clunks" upon down shift when rolling to a stop
-Dash and/or A-Pillar is rattling --haven't addressed yet
-High pressure fuel pump is chirping now at idle
    -Trans fluid was low
-Rear diff fluid was originally low
-Head unit resets at random (cannot recreate for dealer)
-Fuel economy isn't even 1mpg better than our 2016 4Runner
-I carry a spare CPS out of sheer paranoia that mine will fail and leave me stranded 30+ miles from pavement

But I love my turd gen!
    :annoyed:

According the dealer(s), I've called a few in the area, they are not being told
as of yet exactly how to proceed and don't have the needed parts to even
resolve it. They said the official letters to owners aren't even going out for at
least another month. I'm just not willing to let my new truck sit at the lot for
what could easily be months, don't know if it would get used, shuffled around,
    who knows.

    Jesus fuckin christ man....

How did they finally fix the squeaky leaf springs?
Were they able to reproduce the speed needle sticking? I have that happen very rarely, haven't even brought it up because I figured they'd respond, "unable to reproduce."
Any idea what the rear clunk is? I have the same issue.

FWIW - I did fix the kazoo sound with some backer rod from Lowes. Just ran a strip along the top of each front door (jammed in between the existing weatherstrip).
Also, my head unit was resetting whenever I had anything plugged into the USB port. Who needs that I guess...

From the sound of things, I may not take my truck to the dealer for the leaking rear end after all. Let it explode, then Toyota can have the truck back.

Oh, sweet...this sounds exactly how I wanted to spend a Saturday afternoon - working my new $40k truck. If I wanted to spend Saturdays in the garage turning a wrench, I would have kept my 20 year old XJ.

If this is the case, and someone is leasing the vehicle, is Toyota going to take care of that?

It will get fixed. Good to know dealers are communicating the issue with the customers.

If you missed the news blurb, which most people would and you were not on TW you would have no idea of the recall. Why anyone would proactively go to dealer from a forum or news story and demand a fix before receiving a letter is beyond me. Just drive the thing until you are notified. It's not going to blow up. Most pictures people have posted of "leaks" look like about 5 drops of oil seeped out!

If you look at posts of people who have tried to fix it themselves you will find a sheared bolt, and people who have gone to dealer have had to leave their truck.. just drive the damn thing and get it fixed when you get a letter or you take in for service.

Like others have said, you will be better off because they will have done a few and maybe will have added to the list.

    End rant..

Or when the diff fails doing 75mph down the freeway. Whichever comes first I guess.

If it blows up it was due to a bigger issue that's not going to be fixed by a gasket and some torqued bolts or a loss of a half a teaspoon of oil.
