You mean the free service? As in, the one where you get what you pay for?
There's enough horror stories on those that you should do it yourself or take it to a reputable shop if you are worried about your truck getting sidelined for the recall.

Word to the wise. Don't take your truck in for the recall unless you are prepared for the long haul. Meaning, no truck and no ETA on fix.

Sure you get a sweet loaner (RAV4 for me) but call me old school -- let me know when there is a fix so my truck doesn't sit idly at some dealer where any car jockey and mess with it, and play tetris with cars in the parking lot.

Likewise, recently there for forth attempt to fix intermittent starting issue. We're on a first name basis and sharing jokes. So far the latest starting fix is working...new injector.

I think he was just thinking like me... Take it in for the 15k service (I have them change my oil at every service interval, with oil & filter I bring) and have them fix the rear end leakage while it's there via warranty. Since the OR is not on the recall list yet, they can't technically side line it... Not really sure what they would do.

I brought my service manager a 12 pack of local microbrew (his favorite) just for hooking me up on the last TSB without issue. At this point they don't even replicate issues I think they just take my word for it.

You should tell them, I PROMISE I wont drive my truck, but since youre going to keep it on the lot out in the sun, and I have a garage, wouldnt you rather have me hang onto the tacoma so my insurance covers it in the event that say, your dealership burns to the ground? Oh, and yes, yes I will take the 60 day loaner vehicle too. After all, its not like I can drive my truck because I promised I wont.

I may actually do that. Im not going to be playing games. They will either give me my truck or I will be inside of their dealership every morning before going to work eating my breakfast. If they don't give me my truck back then I will be in the lobby drinking all of their coffee, bottled water, and eating all of their fruit and donuts. They will lose money feeding me every morning. They will also have to listen to me ask for my truck every morning. Imagine if all 225,000 affected customers did this. Toyota would get the job done then.

I put my VIN number into the fancy-pants Toyota website and it came back that my truck was NOT part of the recall (DCLB Off Road). However, according to the pdf, my May/June 2016 produced truck is within the window of dispair. Any idea?

I am going in on June 10 for my 1yr service - glad to know to ask them if they see that it has a recall; if so I will promptly leave before handing them the key. I just changed my own oil about 1500 miles ago.

Off-Road models aren't on the recall list yet... Which is either 1) stupid as hell since many of us who have Off-Roads are having the same leakage issue, or 2) Awesome as hell, because they still have to fix the issue via the warranty... Which may mean they don't have to wait for the "official fix." :notsure:

Honestly, all Toyota had to do was develop a fix, and have it ready, by time of recall.

Seems simple. instead, they are holding on all these trucks with no set ETA for fix.

I think the threshold of "one too many" rear diffs locking up in traffic was tripped. This cause their lawyers to raise eyebrows. Letters and announcements had to go out for liability purposes.

my vote is for AWESOME. Trust me, i'd much rather be in your position. I'd like my truck fixed on my schedule, not hold your truck hostage until we 'develop' a fix.

Wow - I sure hope they have enough storage on the lots to hold all these trucks coming in.

One more thing - what if you bought the truck because you actually need the truck to perform truck-like duties beyond posting for glamour shots with TacomaWorld approved sliders/roof top tent for your 2x per year camping trip at the local State Park? How can anyone accept a Yaris/Prius loaner? They should be replacing your vehicle in-kind, right?
