I kept hearing about valve lash adjustment, so ever since 150k, I've had mine checked every 25k. I'm now at 205k and they have never needed adjusted. I do have a couple of them that need attention soon because last I had it checked they were close to the minimum clearance.

Price wise I take mine to my local dealer and they charge me a little over $300. I had to explain it to them what I wanted because they had never done it before. They told me if it wasn't making noise it didn't need adjusted!!!! I had to explain it to them that's not how it works.

As far as power with the 2.7L, I have the auto in a double cab prerunner. It has enough power for me and it helps this configuration comes with a 4.56 rear end.

I have no reason to lie, the 24 mpg has only happened a couple times but I consistently pull 22-23 in the summer. I'm not saying the 2.7 is a power house but I have numerous friends with 3.4s so there's been plenty of comparisons and the power difference to the ground between my 5spd 2.7 and their 3.4 autos is minute.

I went for the 2.7 hasn't given me any issues at all. I do alot of highway driving though and wanted a little more power to be able to stay at speed on hills so I supecharged it a few months ago, no problems since then either.

You sure you're doing the math right? Bigger tires will throw off your odometer.

I just can't believe the power difference would be negligible. The 2.7 has 50 less hp and 48 less ft lbs of torque than the 2.7, and the 2.7 makes its power at a much higher rpm then the 3.4. I had a v6 Prerunner and compared to my 2.7 4wd, it was a race car and the mpg was similar.

Nah it's great, as long as you aren't the kind of person who wants to wring every ounce of horsepower out of every gear out on the trails. . . .
    Wonder who'd do that :notsure:

Yo when you going to pop out on the trails or something again, it's been a while

My 2 cents skip a taco and buy a tundra, the mpg isn't that different on newer ones and the power is much better. I'd definitely take a newer tundra over a newer taco

A friend with a newer tundra gets around 20 mpg and he's running over 33s with loads of weight.... Gotta get your facts right son

Yaaa, I mean I loved the Tacoma but if I were in a position to buy s newer truck I'd get the tundra. Especially if I wanted a 4 door, the 4 door on the Tacoma isn't the best space wise

He's getting better gas mileage, on the average, then the EPA highway-only estimate WITH 33s and loaded with weight?

its only "slightly improved to 15mpg up from the 13mpg they got in most recent years http://www.raybrandttoyota.com/showroom/2017/Toyota/Tundra/Truck.htm

maybe your friend should tell Toyota he has a miracle truck getting better mileage then the ones they sell

I mean c'mon dude, Toyota would pay millions to him for his "secrets" if they could sell a tundra getting that kind of mileage regularly

Yes I know how to divide . odometer was checked with a GPS and is spot on, was actually off with the 31s I had before and the 33"s brought it back on.

As to the power thing, remember my 2.7 is a 5spd and most the 3.4s I know are autos which is narrowing the gap. An auto has more parasitic loss than a manual so they are losing more power to the wheels than I am. I've raced 3 of the 3.4s just for kicks, 2 autos and 1 5spd. First 3.4 auto it was neck and neck, second 3.4 auto I walked away from pretty easy, third 3.4 5spd smoked me pretty good. There are also lotsa variables to concider like vehicle weight and state of tune each truck was in. I have my 2.7 running like a champ, and obviously the 3.4 that I walked away from needs attention, hell, he even had smaller tires than I do and it wasn't even close. I'm not dumb, and I expect a 3.4 to be able to Atleast hang with my 2.7 if not beat it. I'm not claiming the 2.7 is a power house or anything, just that in certain situations it's not far off from the 3.4. Oh, did I also mention my 2.7 has 300k miles on her? I musta just ended up with a runner.
