So here is the story and why I say "need" my first truck was a 2004 first gen tundra, loved it but as I'm going to college I have now given that to my little brother for his first car and parents helped me purchase my tacoma (2007 SR5 4x4) as it has a lot less miles on it than the tundra. I did not know I was going to be switching trucks when I lifted and purchased new wheels and tires for the tundra about a year and a half ago. The setup for the tundra I had was a 2.5 inch spacer/block lift (I've now learned I should stay away from this kind and will be going with a 3 in bilstein 5100 and aal type of lift for the tacoma) after getting this new truck and with purchasing a lift kit soon, the cash department isn't looking too hot. I had planned on giving my brother the rims and tires off of my tacoma temporarily and then for my truck basically the setup would be taking the 285/75/r17 toyo open country AT/2 tires and my 17 inch wheels. This saves me loads of money and I love those wheels and tires... Hopefully you understand my situation here and could give some advice towards how to go about getting these tires to fit decently. Thanks in advance and I love the tacoma community and the truck of course!

I have 285/70r17...so.....almost the same size, youll be less than 1" taller.

All i did was wheels (level 8 tracker i think its like 3.5" bs)
    Bilstein 5100 at 3rd notch
    Cab mount chop.

I still rub at full lock amd compression (coming im to my downhill driveway a little hot) but they are fine 90% of the timeIMG_20170114_071410_069.jpg IMG_20160627_064129.jpg IMG_20160824_055115.jpg

How much was the cab mount chop? (cost wise) and sorry that I am not informed but what exactly does the cab mount chop mean/do.

Honestly the plates were cheap. I want to say like less than $50 for both. It just clearances the part of the frame where larger tires rub. Takes about an inch or so out of the frame (non structural)

And thanks. Couple years itll be paid off and then the real fun starts lol

So "plates" I assumed all you were doing was cutting, were you saying less than $50 to chop both?

You cut a section out, and then replate it. Relentless fab is who i got my plates from, they are precut so all i had to do was trace them, cut out the section i wanted (plus about an inch in for the clearancel amd then weld the plates back.

Okay gotcha thanks for the pic, so if the plate doesn't help structurally, whats the need for replacing it?

It does help...but you're fine if you don't plate it back....it looks better obviously when plated

Is there any negative side to not plating it back in? And also do you go offroad any haha? Hate to ask but I've hear you can fit a lot of things only if you don't go off road. So just making sure you do since I plan to do so myself.

Negative would be if your tire rubs it could tear a light off

I think maybe he meant alot off? If you hit an exposed cut of steel on the frame i see you significantly reducing your tread lol.

Ah I bet you are right, I just watched some tutorials on cutting it and doesn't seem too bad, did you do the cutting and welding yourself?
