Wanted to brag about my score today. Saw this on our neighborhood classified for $10 and I couldn't pass it up. I have a wsm but have never used this kettle. Besides grilling , Can I use this to smoke small size meats ?

Yes and no... there are three ways to build a fire in a kettle... off to the side for in-direct, ring of fire, and pile o' charcoal. The kettle gets pretty hot for low and slow. It does however make the best steak on earth when used properly. Go get some lump charcoal and a chimney and start playing around!

Hell yes you can, just takes a bit of research. What a score. Plus like said, used properly it's the best grill for the buck on earth, and that's at normal price.

#1. Ask @horstuff how to set up a kettle for a proper smoke. I will knock a shoulder/brisket out on the kettle every now and then just to keep it real.

I've smoked pork butts in mine. Just keep the fire small if you want to do low and slow. Get one of the grids that lifts up on the sides and you can add more charcoal as needed.

charcoal briquettes vs lump is as bad as Chevy vs Ford. I usally keep my mouth shit on this topic cuase it leads to nowhere. I haven't used any type briquettes in years. I recintly used some KF in desperation the other day and I couldn't even stand the smell of it. Went through the whole cook and was dissapointed. Took for ever to get started and come up to temp. Fire choking itself out do to ash, color of product wasn't right. Just a bad experience. You can find royal oak anywhere. Even cowboy is tons better. I engurge everyone to run at lease two bags of lump. You will never go back.
