Good for you guys. Gotta be happy in each and enough with the job to be worthwhile like ole @Bluegrass Taco said. My lady had a rough go with a job a few years back. Finally had her full of it. I told her F it and quit. She was worried about the finances. Two weeks later sold my vette problem solved lol. Today I come home to a surprise of new running boards for the truck. Love is grand. As the saying, "we work to live, not live to work".

I had someone the other day ask me if I was going to go back to school and get something else for work. I looked at them and said I make more than what that pays now. So no, I'm not going to go back and pay $6k for something that gains me no more money. I'm quite happy coming in riding on the ambulance, going home at 0900 the next morning and not having to worry about anything except what I'm going to do when I'm not on a call.

Unrelated to this topic at hand, but do you have any suggestions as to first aid training classes to take? I need to go back and do a CPR refresher so I figured if there's something you think might be valuable I would look into it.

You talking about standard lay person CPR and first aid?

Since I have a call to San Andreas I'll go ahead and give some info for you.

For just regular day to day stuff American Heart First Aid and a regular CPR class would be fine. If your CPR card is expired then you'll have to take the whole class over instead of a refresher class. If you want more then there is a NREMT First Responder Course which goes into more depth than the first aid course and is quite a bit longer. I believe it's about 6 weeks meeting 2 times a week and then you take the NREMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) first responder test. It's closer to a quick EMT class but not near as much. You'll learn to use a lot more equipment in that class. I'm not sure if you would have to be affiliated with a fire dept for it or not because I've never taken it. I know all of our volunteer FF's have it in the county where I work. That's probably pretty much it unless you take a EMT course. The other courses out there are geared more towards us with what you need to know to pass them. Hope this helps some.

This is helpful. I know I will have to take the whole CPR class so I figured if I could find a class that covers that as well as some first aid stuff I would go that route. Basically I would like to know more about when I can/can't help them because it will risk their life or make things far worse. Also I would like to know more about things like maybe how to secure a broken limb for transport to a hospital and also for more major cuts how to help cut down the blood flow. Basically I want to know if something happens what are things I can realistically do to help and not make it worse for the medical peeps who will take over when we do make it to a hospital. I feel like I explained this poorly.
