You'd have to ask the travel office that. If they won't pay for it you could still take the ferry. Drop her off in Seattle and pay for her $200 flight out of pocket. That will be the cheapest way by far to get both vehicles to Alaska.

I'll have to talk with them and see what's going on relative to that. That plan sounds good to me...now time to present it to the wife and see how she feels hehe

Got the Tacoma loaded on a truck and headed to Kent, WA, then on a boat to AK. Looks like my truck will be a resident before I am LOL

No pics of the truck here yet, but that's on the list. We are actually going to view some homes today in Eagle River and see if we can find something that I like (nice garage and bonus room) and the wife likes (everything else) LOL

We have been looking at where we want to be when we get there in December, and it looks like Eagle River is top of the list. Keep us up to date with your house hunting so I know what to expect when I get there lol

Yessir, garage to work on the vehicle and build stuff and bonus room for reloading ammo. I'm pretty sure that's called heaven!

I must confess, I spend more time looking at scenery than paying attention to driving! I guess saying I hit a moose in Alaska would be a disaster and a helluva story at the same time LOL

So, the better areas to live are South Anchorage, Eagle River, Wasilla and Palmer.

South Anchorage is pricey for homes as is Eagle River. Once you move out to Wasilla and Palmer, you get tons more house for your money and newer as well. We started looking at South Anchorage and Eagle River, but what you get for your money in Wasilla and Palmer is a HUGE difference. If you need a fantastic realtor, call Jean Santiago at Military Movers Real Estate, she is freaking fantastic.

I think we are going to rent. We just bought our place here in Kentucky, which we will be renting out when we leave. Buying another place in Alaska where it's so expensive may not be the best plan.

You'll spend a shit ton of time sitting in traffic if you live in Wasilla or Palmer and have to commute to Anchorage in the winter, go ahead and factor in 2 hours to commute in winter. May or may not be worth it to some people though, you do get good value out there for your dollar. Also Wasilla has sales tax while anchorage, palmer, and eagle river don't. Just something to consider

You'll see about the same trends when it comes to rental as well. Get on Anchorage Yard Sale, Buy/Sell pages on Facebook, they list tons of rentals daily.

So true. Although my next house might be out of Anchorage, a number of my classmates have 1 hour + commutes each way that often turn into 2 or longer on bad days.
