The XT a DIT and has the same issues as the new WRX and some oil leak / consumption issues. It's a love / hate thing from everything I read when I owned a Subaru. I'd recommend a lengthy test drive or ten.

The new engine for 2013 addressed those oil leaks and put back the timing chain. So far the new engines are holding up very well.

Exactly...happy wife happy life. I'm a firm believer in having the wife in the best car over whatever I'm driving.

I was thinking about finding a deal and then surprising her, but that could go sideways...then she'd insist on driving my Taco

I implore you to read more about FA20DIT failures on stock tunes. Mine knocked to the point of passengers who didn't know what knock was wondering what they felt / heard. Those things also carbon up like nobody's business because of straight DI. They run hot and fast, and they'll also knock and have ring land failure even quicker.

Before settling on the Tacoma my sights were set on Subaru.

Test drove the Forester XT (turbo), Forester base model and the Crosstrek. All were 2014/2015 models.
The XT was by far my favorite.
    - Factory turbo set it way ahead of the base model.
    - Mileage rating wasn't very good on it though. 19city/23hwy, if I remember correctly.

    Base model was nice.
    - Lacked the power of the XT.
    - Mileage ratings were much higher. 25city/hwy, once again, I am going off memory.

    Crosstrek
    -My second favorite
-Size was deceptive...looked small on inside but was quite roomy.
-Cargo space was limited..but they come with roof racks.
-It felt slightly underpowered but that was expected, it made up for that in mileage.

All had exceptional turning radius....we were very impressed.
The interiors, even on the XT, were spartan compared to comparable vehicles.
Not much extra in regards to tech or luxury..but thats been Subaru since the beginning.
Forester had lots of interior space for passenger and cargo.

All that said. I have not been in any newer models.

My sister-in-law has the CrossTrek and they are just a smaller version of the Outback and very affordable new. She has a 2014 2.0 Premium. She loves it, but they don't have kids, they have a dog.

The Foresters and Outbacks seem like you could use as a daily driver on the weekdays and go on a safari on the weekends.

Because you can..google FozRoamer or look him up on Facebook.

    Takes it everywhere.

That's cool stuff he's done. Looks like he puts his Forester to the test.
