BTW - Talked @MTgirl into shooting the 1911. Got one shot out of her. She said it has too much recoil for her. Claimed she's never fired a pistol before.

She knew how to index her trigger finger though and handled the recoil well so I think she's full of it.

Also got her to shoot the AR. Odd teaching a South Paw to hold and shoot.

Maybe she just wanted to feel your breath on her neck and your beard tickling her cheek.

Just because I don't shoot doesnt mean I don't know basic safety
Dad insisted I know at least that much since guns were in the house.

That's why me and Jer go bowing so often.

Oh man, did someone mention Les Baer?

Ooh ooh, did I hear that I should take a trip to Montana with my Ladies First Firearms Training hat on and pay a little visit to @MTgirl? Because there's no way I'd start a non-pistol shooter on a 1911. Gotta work our way up to these things. By the end, though, hellllllla 1911s for days!

Also, I just needed an excuse to visit Montana again, for more than just passing through this time....

Just never been into guns. Plenty of opportunity if I wanted to but just not something that interests me

She was 'willing' and it was there. So I had her shoot it.:notsure:

I don't own a 9mm so I didn't have a beginner's pistol. Hell I've never shot anything smaller than .40 myself... unless you count a really old .22 revolver when I was a child. Only other pistol there was a .40 S&W Shield but that's a lot of snap in a small frame.

My 9yo shot my 1911 last fall... hit a 3"x6" piece of wood dead center from 5yds. I helped her hold it though. Let her aim and shoot. She loved it.

Yeah, I definitely understand that. A couple years ago, my mom really wanted to take the class and she insisted I take it with her. I didn't even want to go. I did, though, and was hooked. They were just never my thing until, I guess, the right time in my life. But guns totally don't have to be your thing. It's cool that you shot the 1911 and can truly say it wasn't your thing. You're still miles ahead of the women (who like me before) just didn't want to touch the gun and therefore said it wasn't their thing.

I definitely prefer the larger calibers myself, but I've worked with a lot of people who don't. I've got a variety specifically for my students, since I rarely shoot the .22 or .380. I could shoot .45 or .357 all day, but tend to stick to 9mm for target shooting because $$$$$. .40 is definitely snappy... I don't really care to shoot it very often.

And that's awesome! Kids tend to either love it or hate it and they're often excellent shots. I think they focus on a different level than adults do and don't get frustrated as easily. It's so good for their confidence, too.

I kind of like shooting the .45 better than my .40. The recoil feel is way different. Only issue being the beavertail on the .45 beats up the web of my hand a bit. Maybe that's a grip issue on my part.

I've thought about buying a 9mm for the same reasons. Cheaper to shoot. Little to no recoil for practicing. Gentler for anyone you want to introduce to shooting.

That said Lisa actually handled the recoil on the 1911 really well. She wouldn't let me video it but I wish I had just to be able to show it to her. I was impressed how well she did for a first time - let alone on a .45 1911.

In my experience, women are generally better shooters than men.

My front mystery noise is not wheel bearings. They're blaming my tars.

The rear mystery noise is pinion related.

Lisa said mine was tires at first. It was pinion and ring related. And still there after rebuild!! So damn annoying...

I don't care what is making the noise so long as it gets fixed.

I did say 'willing' with modified air quotes. So legally I'm covered.

I highly recommend a Sig P320 for a 9mm. They're magical. Great for target shooting, as well as super versatile. Easy to change frame size or caliber if you want it to be a transformer, too.
