actually true ^^^. my 4runner developed a stain on the transfer case about oh...80,000 miles
and had it checked and everyone said that's nothing. so now at over 250,000 miles yep,
still makes wet spot but doesn't actually lose any fluid beyond the stain. no need to crack it open and reseal.

the stains on the 3rd gen along with the recall, will put a lot of pain on toyota they
would likely never have w/o any recall notice.

Yeah man, you don't want to drive around in a Corolla for a month or so! I'd demand a Tundra as a rental

https://www.toyota.com/support/contact-us anyone whose had their trucks taken hostage by a Dealer for this Recall/Leakage/Safety issue better call Toyota Corp and tell them about it, cause I just called them on the Customer service line about what you are saying that your truck is being held for Safety or Parts issues and they know nothing about it and Dealers weren't told to hold any vehicle by them. They said the procedure is to Receive your Recall notice in June and follow the instructions they know nothing about anyones truck being held because of this issues Safety or lack of parts available problems as stated here on TW, so if your truck has been taken better call them and get your truck back cause as far as Toyota Corps says they couldn't take it.

I think Toyota is being overly cautious here, is what they do. They've even taken good care of dirty Harry in spite of all the grief and dissatisfaction (more like dirt lol) he's expressed here.

But have you checked fluid levels and tighten (careful here) your fasteners?

If fluids are slightly overly topped off, it may seep as heat and friction expands and gases out if not fully tighten. Stress of components or casing (heat/cold) may loosen fasteners over time causing the oozing too.

This is what the dealers are supposed to be doing and the factory pays them for. If they had been doing their jobs, would some many ppl be having this issue??
For the most part I don't think they would. And this is why it's free, so I'll do my own maintenance, thank you very much, just wish I could get my $200 back I didn't supposedly pay for my "free 2 yr Toyota care".

And maybe some sharp lawyer will do a class action suit and I'll get my $200 back that way. But I'm not holding my breath

But aren't the dealers supposed to have been checking this every 5k for "free"?
Or did these leaks all happened last week?

The Dealers have no authorization to Hold anyones vehicle for this issue NONE, in fact the Toyota corp. customer service has gotten zero complaints from anyone whose truck was held(hostage) as stated here. if your truck was taken you better call Toyota corp complaint department and get your truck back

    Please post your credentials.

Please do not tighten your own "fasteners" this has already resulted in members damaging things that shall be covered by Warranty and Dealer will fix. Let it be Toyota's problem. Please resist the urge to create more problems for yourself by tinkering with a potentially Faulty System or Component on your $35K to $40K+ truck.

if you don't believe me call the LINK I supplied and talk directly with the customer service agent, it takes all of 5 minutes. There was no authorization from Toyota Corp to hold anyones truck, if yours was held they want to know the Dealer that had done it.

Toyota Corporate won't tell you what is going on. The same case manager that awarded me with a 125K Mile/8 year warranty for being on the fringe of a buy back case will play Dumb with the next customer who calls with the exact same or even worse issues. Good Grief. They tow the company line bud.

These Toyota corporate call center "case managers" are essentially provided a Public Relations script and they are trained on what they can and cannot say. They are not going to risk implicating the company and will try to downplay or deescalate every single issue you bring up to them. They don't know if you are Jimbob with a Toyota Tacoma pissing rear diff oil on the driveway or if you're the Chief Staff Writer for the Washington post.

I only see one case in which one member supposedly broke a stud checking his own diff. And don't see any other "members" doing so too. But I did, and so have others already no issues.

Got to be careful with some members who dish out propaganda and miss information. Just the facts mam please, it's not rocket science to check for loose fastens. At least not for most ppl.

    Hope that helps!
    Cheers!

Well it's normal to have a little seepage supposedly. A little leaking and staining is perfectly OK
