3 Weeks of Owning a Tacoma from a former Raptor owner... Here is my review

I disagree, it's one of the best driving experiences you can have for the money.

When I see "best ever produced", I felt compelled to bring up the old Datsuns...people tend to forget these were some classic drivers. Course, Nissan has strayed pretty far from those vehicles of yore.

 

Oh c'mon! You know very well it was a pain to even open the door if someone parked next to you. I once had to go through the passenger side door to get in because someone parked next to me. I had a blue SCAB and loved it, but it was a little too wide.

 

Good write up, i just bought a Pedal Commander, only been running it for 3 days, but so far i love it. really wakes up the throttle response and the truck feels much faster on part throttle driving. It eliminates the throttle dead spots. Feels much more like an older truck with a cable throttle body.

 

I was cross shopping a 370Z and FRS, but ended up with the FRS. The new Z34s are just a bit overbloated compared to their predecessors. It's sad there's virtually nothing in terms of compact sports cars these days

 

Haha yeah, every trip to practically anywhere involved a recon mission to find the furthest spot possible to avoid parking next to others!

My serious car guy experience has value tied directly to it. A miata is the best value at that price. Is a ferrari better?? I'm sure, but the miata is just as fun and a lot cheaper! The BRZ was a blast and people complain how it needs more power... well you can make it more powerful for a price. I enjoyed it for what it was and didn't complain what it could be. I remember on the ford raptor forum people would complain about the MPG... lol

 

You do realize in professional motorsports, the one ton trucks are used for baja/desert racing, right? It's not supposed to be a rock crawler and desert racing is legitimate offroad racing.

 

adaptive transmission is a better term.. and it doesn't take 3000 miles to learn, that would be ridiculous. Its adaptive cycle you cant teach it anything.

How would that work for fleet trucks if it actually learned personal habit of multi 1000's of miles... learns (adapts) based on environment within minutes not 1000's of miles.

The raptor was a desert racer. It could go 100 mph in the sand and feel like you were driving it on the highway. I was initially going to move to Las Vegas and directly take advantage of this, but I stayed in PA

No, I've started gathering the parts for my kit already.

 

I think the BRZ is far superior looking to the FRS, at least on the inside.

 

I bought it for the platform, not for creature comforts or doo-dads

 

You can't base the reliability of Toyota today because of their reliability in the 70's and 80's, they are much different today and GM/Ford are both much closer if not equal on many levels. The long term ownership costs of a Colorado is just a hair behind the Tacoma as is resale, so it isn't as big a selling point as it once was...

Um, it sure does. The only Honda that was equal or superior to an M3 was an Acura here (NSX). I Integra Type R is a superior FWD sporty economy car but it in no way matches an M3...

Uh, power everywhere? Those cars were notorious for not having any torque down low and needing to be revved to get moving. or are you talking about once in its power band it had power everywhere?

I wish I could fit in one to drive, I appreciate the heck out of a lower power awesome handling car as it is more fun driving a slow car fast than a fast car slow (plus you can get so much more out of it). Miata's, Sky's/Solstice, ect just aren't in my driving pallet if they are a stick. Wish they would bring it back, though it would probably get a turbo, help the low end torque but lose some of the high revving uniqueness. I am an NA personally (mostly GM architecture). The LS7 in a Solstice looked wicked...
