From what I seems, none of the ORs are on the recall list---yet. Consider yourself lucky. You don't your truck commandeered by the dealer and having them play lot tetris with your truck for an indefinite amount of time.

My OR was not on the list but also consider that I've had my rear diff replaced once. I won't hold my breath either way.

The actual recall letter to the dealers specifically tells them to hold the truck. It was posted here a few days ago. Toyota Care is wrong

I almost wish I was on the recall list. Drive into one of the local Dealers I don't care for then sit in my truck and let them "United Airlines" my ass out of the driver's seat.

Yeah, I called and Toyota Care specifically told me that they need to hold the vehicle until the recall is completed. At first, she was like. No, they can't hold your vehicle. Put me on hold for a few mins, and came back with yeah, we need to hold it.

My favorite part of that story, "what's injured?"

    EVERYTHING.

Hey Fonzy, there is a fix I printed the recall sheet off and called my service advisor at the dealership and as usual they know nothing about the recall. But the remedy will involve an inspection to determine if leak is present between the rear differential and the rear axle. I f the vehicle has no signs of leak, all fasteners will be re-tightened. If a leak is identified, the rear differential carrier gasket will be replaced with a new one, and ne fasteners will be installed. If the rear differential components are damaged, the rear differential carrier assembly will be replaced with a new one. This remedy will be at no cost to customers.

We will soon find out the reason for the "weeping" is that the rear end is very sad and upset with he lack of torque and constant shifting it has to endure................

Sorry, but that is the public letter. This is the letter that the public didn't see.

    Here is the text:

    Remedy
The remedy will involve an inspection to determine if a leak is present between the rear differential and the rear axle. If the vehicle has no signs of a leak, all fasteners will be re-tightened. If a leak is identified, the rear differential carrier gasket will be replaced with a new one, and new fasteners will be installed. If rear differential components are damaged, the rear differential carrier assembly will be replaced with a new one. This remedy will be at no cost to customers.

NOTE: Toyota expects that less than 1% of vehicles will exhibit a leak. Toyota is currently preparing the parts necessary to remedy these vehicles and will provide an update when that information becomes available. Until that update is provided, customers with vehicles that have been identified as having a leak should be provided a loaner vehicle. If a dealer identifies a vehicle with a leak in their new or used stock, these vehicles should be held until the remedy is performed. For vehicles without a leak that are in a dealer’s new vehicle stock (and covered by this recall), a dealer must perform the retightening of the fasteners before the vehicle can be sold.

I love how the recall letter says this only affects 1% of owners. lol

Big question is this? is your VIN flagged or not? This would have a big difference in your quality of life for the next month ;)

IMO for this to be simply bad torque from the factory or vendor is not valid since many more non-listed vehicles are exhibiting the same symptoms. What this most likely is, is Hino went with another supplier of fasteners and bolts, and this new supplier gave them high quality Chinese made fasteners made to Harbor Freight tolerances.

the procedure is to get a recall notice in June, follow instructions, at that time the Rear will be inspected and Hold(TBD) to be determined, not bring the truck in without recall notification in May. if you bring your truck in May and they want to hold your truck for 1.5 months your crazy, drive out and go home.

Yeah but with that and 1 or 2 quarts of Transmission fluid saved on a quarter million tacomas produced....shit that's some pretty good cost savings. Used bubble gum for hood adhesive too! Helps clean the sidewalk and save money! I applaud Toyota for their cost effectiveness.
